DES MOINES, Iowa —Protesters marched from the Iowa State Capitol to the Polk County Courthouse Saturday afternoon as part of the "Ferguson Solidarity March."
“Ferguson’s problems are our problems,” one protester said.
Organizers of the protest said they need to send a message about police and racial problems, especially since they believe what happened in Ferguson can also happen in Des Moines.
“I think it’s that persistence is key right now because here in Des Moines, we’re not accustomed to seeing things like this happen, “organizer Kaija Carter said.
Protesters even added what they call a "die-in" to illustrate what has been happening.
As people read stories about others who have died, demonstrators took turns lying on the ground.
Organizers said this was to show others what it meant to be in their shoes in these situations.
“It was emotional sitting there on that floor because, what if that was my son?” Carter said.
Not everyone was happy about their protest.
“Of course, you always have a couple of hecklers, a couple of naysayers, but that’s just par for the course,” organizer Patrick Stall said.
Since some Des Moines residents believe similar violence could happen in Iowa, people who didn't organize the protest still came to support the message.
“It’s not that police are bad. We need very good police who understand how to use their power in a very productive way to help bring the community together,” Sheri Clemons said.
Last week, some of the protesters held a rally in Evelyn Davis Park in Des Moines.
While the protest organizers said they don't have anything planned for the upcoming days, they do hope to continue spreading their message.
I lived and worked there half my life but I don't recall seeing too many freaks (I'm guessing those are Drake, Grandview and DMACC students, mostly), other than the bums and winos. They get a ton of homeless & drifters there because they're at the intersection of US 35 and US 80.
Guess their just trying to live up to it.
Words like “solidarity,” “progressive,” “forward,” are clues to communist leanings. They are meant to convey a political component beyond their dictionary definitions.

Those whites, hispanics,asians,and orientals, who have the misfortune to wander near or into areas controlled by “these people” and get beaten or killed because they are not black might have difficulty in being color blind.

The sad part is ,so called “protests” about this and others like it should go into the reasons the resulting division created by the regimes propaganda has, condoned looting,racial attacks ending in murders, (which includes too many blacks. This is denying their culture has basic decency) why this is going on. To prevent investigations into regime’s corruption, malfeasance,and constitutional abuse.
I have had all I need to hear from the “Street Rats” demanding they get better treatment. Enough is enough!
How many times have you seen police beating a bunch of WHITE people for minding their own business, following the law, not looting, not stealing, not raping, not burglarizing, not carjacking (this list could be really long)? If the blacks would pull up their pants and clean up their act, perhaps they MIGHT get better treatment.
Ask yourself why you have NEVER seen or heard of any white group protesting against “police violence”.
Next time one of these hippies is in some type of trouble, instead of the police they can try calling a crackhead.

Well, it’s certainly one of the most socialist in its thinking. Just like its neighbor to the north. Both are “white” states.
But Iowa is a blue state. And, like New Hampshire, it is a pissy little place that revels in its misconception that its quadrennial circus of early “vetting” of candidates is somehow meaningful.
If I were a Republican candidate for president I would by-pass Iowa entirely. It’s not worth the effort to troll for its chump change number of electoral votes.

Apparently they wore out their welcome in Ferguson.
Are they going to rob c stores and assault clerks to show solidarity?
I suppose that's why in my mostly white metro area of over one hundred thousand, there's about one or two murders a year. And more and more those murders were committed by the tiny minority (one percent black) population in this area.
