Dont reach for your pockets. Be respectful. Dont move too quickly. Dont run. How many white women have had this conversation with their sons? Most likely not many since my black, young son has a greater chance of being profiled, harassed or even killed by some members of law enforcement.
I don’t remember exactly where I “learned” this but in traffic stops I’ve always made a point to get WAY OVER to keep the cop out of traffic and LEAVE YOUR DAMN HANDS ON THE STEARING WHEEL UNTIL THEY TELL YOU OTHERWISE!
Also, courtesy and respect don’t hurt! I couldn’t tell you how many times in my life that I’ve been pulled over but I’ve only gotten two tickets.
Respect authority, you may live a lot longer.
One of the worst things that is uttered on a regular basis in the black community is:
“That ain’t no big deal.”
It refers to how much anti-social behavior they will tolerate in the communities.
Now imagine that mindset over generations.
FWIW, when UCR stats for race are entered, you are either White or Black, then indicated as Hispanic or Non-Hispanic.
There is no separate Hispanic/Latino column.
“Dont reach for your pockets. Be respectful. Dont move too quickly. Dont run”
I am not being sarcastic but if what I have read and seen in video is correct the kid’s mother should have told him “don’t steal cigars, don’t assault the store clerk, don’t walk down the middle of the street, don’t assault a police officer and try to take his gun, don’t turn around and charge back at an armed police officer”
“That ain’t no big deal”
You remind me of New York pre Guiliani days.
One broken window ain’t no big deal. A drug deal on the corner ain’t no big deal. A little spray paint on the wall ain’t no big deal. A broken down car on the street ain’t no big deal. Next thing you know you’re looking at the ruins of 80s New York.
A little talking back to elders ain’t no big deal. Failing school classes ain’t no big deal. Wearing a sideways hat ain’t no big deal. Saggy pants ain’t no big deal. Smoke a little weed ain’t no big deal. Drink some booze ain’t no big deal. Rob a liquor store for some cigars ain’t no big deal. Assault a police officer ain’t no big deal.........
How many white mothers have to tell their child how to deal with police officers? How many white mothers are instructing their boys how to act and to react if pulled over by the police?
ANY wise woman does this. I did this. I’m white.
“Perhaps that would be a topic best explained by the fathers.”
That’s actually a very good catch. She seems never to have even CONSIDERED that there are roles best performed by fathers.
The ‘broke into’ got me, too. Twice, no less.
