Intellectual hubris hampers presidential geniuses
Washington Examiner ^ | 8-5-2014 | Noemie Emery

(snip) Democrats are quick to lay claim to the mantle of intellect, at least in the more modern age: Jimmy Carter was said to be smarter than Gerald Ford, everyone was said to be smarter than Ronald Reagan, Michael Dukakis was said to be smarter than George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton said to be smarter than all except his wife, Hillary, and Al Gore and John Kerry much smarter than George W. Bush, whose SAT scores, the New York Times told us, had to be much, much lower than Kerry’s, until it was found they were not.

..... John Adams mocked George Washington; Henry Adams found little to like in Abraham Lincoln or Theodore Roosevelt, and John Quincy Adams never got over his loss to Andrew Jackson, becoming irate when his alma mater bestowed a degree on his unlettered successor in 1833. As he wrote to the president of the university (who was his cousin), "I could not be present to see my darling Harvard disgrace herself by conferring a Doctor’s degree upon a barbarian and a savage who could scarcely spell his own name." The "savage," of course, knew how to get to the point of the matter in a way that scholars can’t master. "The only Latin I know is E Pluribus Unum," he said.

(snip) Michael Dukakis, called a great brain because he took a book on Swedish land use policies to read on vacation, was never able to explain why it was prudent to give murderers unsupervised furloughs, an idea that elites found humane and progressive, and voters found mad. Similarly, Obama is in trouble because he could not get his brain around two base rules of politics so commonsense and self-evident as to need no explanation whatever: ..... (Read more at source)

So, of course, Obama - who has defended to the death his secret papers at EVERY level of his life including SAT scores, transcripts, law school scores, and even essays and law records (before he and Michelle were disbarred in Illinois) .... must obviously be so smart they are invisible.

I have seen no evidence that Obama is intelligent at all.

Wisdom is from God. That is the missing element at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

Of course, Obama is neither smart nor wise...he is only half black.

Good find, so true!

It's great to be "brilliant" and "academic" and "intellectual", as long as you surround yourself with some normal and highly intelligent and accomplished other people who actually understand real people, real situations, real problems and crises, and how life and the world really works...

The hundreds of comments over at the Examiner are funny, including:

“He (Pres. Oblamebush) is the smartest man in the room, only if there are no other humans, cats, dogs or live plants in the room.

....

and would be hard pressed to be the smartest in a room of rocks, empty chairs, and single celled life”

The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias manifesting in unskilled individuals suffering from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than is accurate. This bias is attributed to a metacognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize their ineptitude.

David Dunning and Justin Kruger of Cornell University conclude, "the miscalibration of the incompetent stems from an error about the self, whereas the miscalibration of the highly competent stems from an error about others".

This explains why and what Democrats are.

Mildly surprised that a writer of Noemie Emery’s caliber left out Thomas Woodrow Wilson, the only PhD holder ever to reach the Presidency, unapologetic Progressive. “Megalomaniac” might be a better term for him; he was the first President to poormouth the Constitution in public. He also believed that in the Progressive Era the Almighty was manifesting Himself in the power of the Almighty State; therefore anyone opposing the State was going against God’s will.

TWW “kept us out of the Great War” for the silliest reasons, then - after winning re-election on just that slogan - brought the nation into the war by applying the windiest rhetoric, neglected its conduct in preference for turning the nation into a totalitarian state (with, it must be admitted, enthusiastic help from Herbert Hoover and a veritable gang of eager Progressive busybodies), then buffaloed the peace negotiators at Versailles into any number of unwise provisions, casting a pall of moralizing over a very touchy situation and contributing nothing to its resolution. On returning to the States, he campaigned for Senatorial approval of his goofy treaty with all the overbearing moral force and imposing language that was his alone to wield.

The consequences of putting a proud Progressive intellectual into high office are indeed still with us.

I don’t believe that he is. On the contrary, we’ve seen everything that indicates otherwise.

Since he is considered a god, it is well known that god does not have a c average so his transcripts can’t be released.

I do not believe that Obama is either very intelligent or well educated. He uses mannerisms to indicate such superiority, but it’s all a performance.

He cannot seem to learn. He appears to have problems thinking logically.

What he says without scripted direction reveals his woeful lack of education (remember, he spent his high school years in a fog—I attended a demanding college prep high school, and would not want to be without the foundation I acquired there—Obama has no such foundation apparent. He does even seem to know which states border Illinois, which is something one learns in elementary school.)

Barry is not an intellectual. I'm an intellectual, and my crowd knows that "Austrian" is not a language, and that it's not pronounced "Navy corpseman".

You would have got the Spock raised eyebrow if you committed intellectual faux pas like those in educated circles in the era in which he claims he went to school.

"This is a guy whose IQ is off the charts," Michael Beschloss said of Obama, who was the "smartest guy" to be president.

How embarrassing for Michael Beschloss to be caught openly fellating The Two-Digit IQ-In-Chief. Well, I suppose Michael has his big-dollar "book deals" to console him. ("Book deals" are how the Left pays off its loyalists.)
