After almost 100 years the owners of the Panama Canal realized they had to widen its lanes to accommodate larger cargo ships.
Once the decision was made they opted to make a huge leap and configure their capabilities to allow ships carrying up to 2 ½ times the containers that have been in use for the past several years. The nation of Panama did not make this move in secret. The idea was unveiled in early 2006 and finally voted on in a referendum held on Oct 22, 2006. The idea of widening the shipping lanes passed 77% to 22%.
Nevertheless, not even a month later on November 20, 2006 Los Angeles and Long Beach approved new clean air laws (who could be against clean air?) that sealed the fate of their port operations.
In a bragging and celebratory press release, the governing boards of the two ports announced that they had voted to implement the San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan. They crowed that it was the most comprehensive strategy to cut air pollution and reduce health risks ever produced for a global seaport complex.

I large percentage of power for California comes from Coal fired plants in Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah and Mexico. California boast they are a “green” state as they pollute other states to get their power. I know, I live in California, and I know what our leadership in Sacramento does
Liberals believe that all their ideas will result in only the desired outcome and that they will not affect the way people and businesses react.
And when people react rationally liberals castigate them as uncaring and criminal and pass more laws.

The limousine liberals on the coast are happy to have fewer ships, trucks and people getting in their way. The limousine liberals aren’t environmentalists. They are greedy, selfish, lying rats out to get what they want.....isolation. Exclusivity is the real sign of wealth and power. You serfs in California are nothing but a bother.

Exactly. Liberals see problems everywhere and then pass laws to “fix” them which only make them worse and then they have new solutions to fix the problems they caused.

I have a couple of really good job opportunities in California but things are so screwed up, I’m passing.
And when they have completely screwed things up, they move to a new state and start the process over again.
