This 4th of July, Forget the Fireworks, Safely fire Your Weapons Instead: 1776 Protest
Vanity ^ | 3 July 14 | Xzins

Obviously, the safety issue is very important. But, I don't know a single gun owner who doesn't know when and where he/she can safely fire their weapons.

Why do it?

1. America’s revolution was an armed revolution -- and not a fireworks display -- that led to the freedom of this nation. People died. People gave 'their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor.'

2. Fireworks are nice, pretty, a crowd pleaser. And, for a country that understands their past, present, and future freedom, fireworks are a good reminder. When our own Veterans Administration can't remember that "Independence Day" is not the 3rd of July, it is time to rattle the cage a bit. And, honestly, how many think beer, hot grill, and firecrackers instead of 'Give me liberty or give me death!' ? I'd say the vote comes down enormously on the side of scorched hot dogs.

3. Our Freedoms are under attack. Fire your weapons on the 4th, America's Militia! Let them know you're armed and lethal. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

There’s gonna be plenty of firearms action at my family’s 4th- we always do a bunch of shooting before it gets dark. This year, I invested in some .22 sized Tannerite to spice things up. I’m also trotting out my 1869 Swiss Vetterli for the first time (the most advanced military weapon of it’s day!). After dark, it’ll be lots of fireworks!

OK but we should coordinate for different time zones. So is the 4’s EST and all others adjust for their time zone ?

?! 22 ?!?

replacing them is almost 50% more in cost these days

It's especially hurtful when I need a tool and without thinking, I go to get it ... and get stopped when I realize ... it ain't there anymore.

It's amazing what you can do with a hammer ... a bigger hammer, a screwdriver and duct tape

Really Travis? You seriously are gonna hop on that bandwagon?

When anyone says shoot a gun on the 4th instead of fireworks the first thing that comes up for many people is shooting in the air. So failing to address it specifically is a mistake. Getting all whiny about it when challenged shows a complete lack of balls.

Which is foolish. Just as this guy found out. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/ohio-freak-death-man-fires-gun-air-bullet-travels-mile-kills-15-year-old-amish-girl-article-1.994626

Every local gun range in a 25 miles radius from my home is booked solid through the weekend.

Grin, 'bout the same here. I'm not going to fire on my property - no blank rounds. I can't fire into the landscape rocks, too dangerous. I've worked too damn hard coaxing my lawn back to life to shoot it - that would send mixed messages to the grass which seems to like to die off for no particular reason. ;-)

Celebrating Independence Day by shooting live ammunition out of battle rifles and pistols has been a tradition at our home for more than 20 years.

For those of you concerned about safety issues, we aim our weapons from our deck down into the ground, or into a stump.

For years I would save the target, usually an old box, date it and save it as memorabilia for a great time shooting with my brothers and later my sons.

For those of you who live in area where you feel you can safely and legally expend a few rounds shooting your weapons, I highly recommend it.

Happy Fourth to all of you!

Bangsite, milk jug with hole in cap, fuse. Very loud. Probably a felony by today’s laws but great fun when we were kids.

“But, I don’t know a single gun owner who doesn’t know when and where he/she can safely fire their weapons. “

You obviously don’t live in an urban zip code with a high percentage of uneducated people.

I would have said “hood” but that’s racist.

Just curious, are you hanging out in the Middle East?

Not looking to argue, I’m having enough of that dealing with the ChampVA/Medicare to get Mother in Laws Meds refilled.

Not Today, it started on Monday for Me dealing with ChampVA/Medicare trying to get Mother in Laws Meds refilled.

I’ve now got Our Senator and House Rep involved in the mess but it seems like all I have been doing is filling out and signing release forms for now 4 days....
