Gov. Scott Walker Signs Gun Confiscation Law Under Cloak of Domestic Abuse

Wisconsin’s governor Scott Walker passed three new laws, addressing domestic violence. The laws include a mandate that police track the incidents where no arrests are made when dealing with a domestic-disturbance call.

The laws also make it very clear that there will be a process for seizing an “abuser’s” guns.

This section of the law was proposed by Republican Rep. Andre Jacque of De Pere, and also requires district attorneys to report to the Wisconsin Department of Justice each time a cop responds to a domestic abuse call and doesn’t arrest anyone.

Republican Rep. Garey Bies proposed in the third law passed, that people subject to a domestic-abuse injunction must fill out a form to document, and then surrender their weapons. When the individuals injunction expires, they would have to request them back in writing.

“This is one more big step toward trying to make sure that for every gun you take away, it’s that much better for (a victim, their) family and friends and loved ones who care about that person,” Walker said.

These extreme measures are being put forth equipped with a sob story of a tragic incident involving a deadly case of domestic abuse. Are these measure going to help domestic violence? Probably not but it will help disarm the population.

The governor signed 55 other bills at the state capitol , one measure prohibits people from advertising their children for adoption online, while another legalizes the use of marijuana byproduct cannabidiol to treat children’s seizures.

Other bills of note allow University of Wisconsin System researchers to perform classified national security work in campus facilities, give county jailors more authority to strip search inmates, and legalize nonprofits’ rubber-duck race fundraisers. The state Justice Department has warned such races amount to illegal gambling.

Brady Bill - effective in all states. If someone gets a domestic violence or anti-stalking restraining order (or protection order) on them, cops can take their guns.

Government is a force. A dangerous servant ... becoming a fearful master. Here, Federal government, a force powered by dubiously "elected" folks (a minority that cheated), overrules the people of their respective states in deciding police can take citizens' guns under such pretenses regardless of what people on the ground there want or would have voted for.

I think Americans know this instinctively and want to vote FOR politicians whose destination is to reduce government on all fronts. The 2nd Amendment is an issue crucial to many Democrats and Republicans, a key uniting focus for the very principle of holding down government.

I agree that abusers are dangerous and probably shouldn’t have guns but then what do we do when they simply get guns somewhere else?

I think the problem is that it’s the domino effect, first the abuser, then the gun show where he got another weapon, then the “unregistered” guns they can’t account for and on and on.

The truth is, if an abuser wants to hurt his victim, he will.

Our state has a Democrat governor and not surprisingly he is signing almost the exact same bill here in Minnesota. I expected better from Scott Walker.

Yes, it is certainly possible for a woman to falsely accuse her husband/boyfriend. It is also possible for someone to be wrongly convicted of a felony, and virtually every gangbanger and thug released from prison also decries their total innocence. Therefore, I guess you also support the right of convicted felons to carry concealed.

I regularly listen to a Police Scanner, and can personally attest to the fact that the vast majority of Domestic Violence calls in my area are repeatedly and regularly dispatched to the SAME addresses. If these people are incapable of extracting themselves from a situation where regular 911 police responses are required, then yes, perhaps they are not mature or responsible enough to own weapons. I and 99% of the gun owners I know live law abiding, responsible lives. I am NOT willing to fight for the rights of those who choose to live in a violent abusive firestorm, year after year. When I regularly argue my 2nd Ammendment rights to others I ALWAYS, and PASSIONATELY point out I’ll be DAMMNED if they are ever going to restrict the rights of RESPONSIBLE, LAW ABIDING gun owners. I guess you feel I should abandon that argument, and start fighting to defend the rights of every and any piece of trash with a police car parked in front of their house every Saturday night.

And thanks for the crack about people like me being responsible for jackasses like Cuomo, bloomberg, and Diblasio being in office. It’s always nice to know that if I dare raise a mere question or point of discussion, I will be attacked.

So you’re comparing someone who has had a (possibly spurious) call made about them to a CONVICTED felon? And if calls are made “regularly” against someone, why aren’t they arrested and convicted? And yes, I think that people released from jail and prison should get their rights back, including voting and the 2nd Amendment. If they don’t deserve these back, they are too dangerous to be allowed back into society. It has to be one or the other. You’re either rehabilitated 100% or you should remain incarcerated. Got that?

I would just point out that you’re arguing about people who are repeatedly involved in domestic incidents.

But the law only requires one incident.

Scott Walker also signed WI’s “shall issue” CCW in his first year in office. Does he get any credit for that?

Why are you asking me? Are you an adult? Then vote for whomever you like. Does he get credit for being pro-gun years ago and a gun confiscator now? That depends on your view of the 2nd Amendment, I suppose.

breitbart.com:

Gov. Scott Walker: I Don't Support Amnesty

In an exclusive interview with Breitbart News Executive Chairman Stephen K. Bannon for the Sirius XM Patriots network, Wisconsin GOP Gov. Scott Walker said he does not support amnesty and the Washington Post’s Aaron Blake, who previously reported Walker supports a “pathway to citizenship” for illegal immigrants took him “out of context.”

Towards the end of the interview, Bannon noted that “Amnesty is about the sovereignty of the country.” But, he asked Walker, “the Washington Post said earlier that you’re pro-pathway to citizenship.”

“See now that’s where they take it out of context,” Walker said in response. “I’ve not said there should be amnesty in this country. I don’t believe that. I don’t support the legislation being kicked around. What I’ve said repeatedly is we need to fix the immigration system, but fix the legal system. So if people want to come in this country we should have a legal immigration system.”

Bannon then interjected: “And take care of the borders and everything we have to do first.”

Walker concurred, saying that any immigration reform efforts should “fix the front door.”

“If you’re somebody, whether you’re from Mexico or Germany or Ireland, and you want to come to this country legally, we should find a way to make it happen,” Walker said.

2ndDivisionVet, you have been conned by that article.

The bill signed by Walker amends an ALREADY EXISTING domestic violence law, which was enacted many years ago to implement the requirements of the 1997 federal law that JoeDetweiler points out in #21. The already long-existing law already specified surrender of firearms if there is a domestic violence charge.

The press have spun this as seeming to be new legislation, in a way to alienate 2A people away from Walker.

The bill's text is here.

The legislation says:

Under current law, a person is prohibited from possessing a firearm and must surrender any firearm he or she possesses if he or she is subject to a domestic abuse injunction, a child abuse injunction, or, if the court determines that he or she may use a firearm to harm another or endanger public safety, a harassment injunction (injunction). A person who is subject to an injunction (respondent) must surrender his or her firearm to a sheriff or to a third party approved by the court and is guilty of a Class G felony if convicted of possessing a firearm while subject to the injunction. This bill creates a procedure for notifying a person, when the person is served with a petition for an injunction hearing, of the prohibition against possessing a firearm and of the requirement to surrender any firearm.

The bill also creates a procedure for surrendering firearms after the court grants an injunction....

The Wisconsin law, unlike many states' domestic violence laws, gives the gun owner the option of entrusting his guns to a relative, friend, or other person approved by the judge to store the guns until the expiration of the court order.

Thank you for the added information.
I’m stunned at the amount of dumping on Walker has occurred in one short thread. My guess is they weren’t a ‘fan’ of him to begin with.
