If you’re looking to retire some place warm and sunny then Minnesota probably isn’t high on the list. Aside from experiencing some of the coldest weather in the country, Minnesota also has an above average cost of living and residents pay some of the highest property, sales and state income taxes nationwide. Seniors will find it easier to get access to quality medical care and the crime rate is relatively low but you could end up shelling out more for these perks.

Not sure what you mean. I hope it wasn’t an angry horde of Hawaiians who chased you into your canoe at Makaha?

I think Tennessee does not tax retirement income other than dividends.

Surfing. Lots of beef with locals in the water at times at certain breaks. Granted the Islands are not the only place that happens, however it is a little more menacing when done by 300 lb mokes. I paddled faster, stayed with it and earned some respect. Give a little, get a little.

Dunno how Obama survived Hawaii.

They kicked one of my black shipmates head in.
Didn’t rob him, just mucked him up, detached retinas and all just because he was black.
No love for haoles either.

i moved to East TN almost 3 yrs ago and haven't looked back.

Once you learn the language this is a great place to be. No income tax, property tax is low, very gun friendly and I wanted 4 seasons with no extremes, and got that.

Once you turn 65 medicare is the same in any state. Get a supplement you will be OK until 0Care screws it up, which will be in every state.

Keep loookin if ya want, but don't rule out East TN.

But the weather in California is perfect most of the year. Throw that into the index and it is a great place to retire.

“Try Kentucky.”

..but not east of Lexington or too far outside of the LOU-LEX-CIN corridors. The quality and quantity of medical care drops off sharply outside of that. This is something that older people really need to consider, where time (to get to the emergency room) is of the essence.

Yes, but the POLITICAL climate is a big turn-off...

But I thought that Tenn didn’t tax SS, military, or pensions or have a property tax...?

Am I wrong, or did it change?

(Those were the reasons it was #1 on our list.)

Winter has to suck, but summer sucks in Tx IMHO.

Wyoming is beautiful.

Went through a snow storm in the little big horn on Aug 29th one year.
We holed up in Buffalo until we could pass.

The snow was on the blooming sage under a full moon.
It was pretty spiritual.

California will tax income from a source that has an office in California even if you live in a state like Texas.

In CA, if a cell phone is listed at $650.00, but you sign at two year contract to get the phone for $0.99, you pay sales tax on $650.00

DO NOT live OR retire in CA.

So many of us on this site are at retirement age of approaching it — self included.

I hope there are some younger members that will continue this battle as we go out to pasture, but I am not too sure.
