And the fresh air ain't bad either. Don't trust it... I filter all my air through a cigarette.

It is amazing how many friends and family laughingly ask "Why do you need so much ?" Their assumption is that a couple extra cans of soup will be enough until 'someone' fixes distribution problems. Stupidly, one month, I forgot to pay my electric and water bill to the city. I had been travelling and it was the days before I set up auto-bill pay. They shut me down on a Saturday morning and wanted a ridiculous amount of money to come on the weekend to turn it back on. BUT, Monday, was only $20. (Yeah, my fault) I said I'll see you Monday, took a Navy shower with some rain bucket water, cooked dinner over a handmade alcohol stove and was quite comfortable over the weekend. I can only imagine the catastrophe if something so simple had happened to people I know who have NOTHING but a couple extra rolls of TP and a cell phone as their back up plan. They would simply panic.

In the laundry?
I don’t believe I’ve ever done that.
It would be rash, though, to say I never will.

Excellent idea.
The fire at the end will kill any germs passing-through.

If I'm out plinking, I've got a habit of dumping a box of .22 in my pants pocket. Sometimes, not all of them get removed before laundry day.
I've never had one go BANG in the dryer.
Needless to say, I didn't have that problem when I had the AR-50. ;)

Thanks for keeping the prepper spirit alive on FR, Kartographer!
Today, I planted the first seeds in the garden beds at my new place. No idea what the shade is like in the summer, because I haven't been here, but hopefully I put stuff in the right place.
I also beefed up my ammo supply a little more. For now, we have stable prices on 5.56mm, 40S&W, and 9mm, so I am stocking up.

Yep. Many would just panic.
I haven't had hot running water for 7 years. For the years I did the mountain man thing, I didn't have any running water or indoor plumbing. Or commercial 'lektrickity. One learns to manage.

When you were doing the mountain man thing, were you between wives?

I was avoiding a potential ex-wife #4. It worked. She married someone else. Survival is a state of mind. ;)

I have a fair amount of .22 (but you can never have enough) but my friend just moved back to Kentucky from Southern California and he hasn’t had an opportunity to replenish his stocks.

Ok Rooster, I’m with you, I’m a bit younger ex soldier, but I’m packing a few extra from having to eat my own cooking (read I don’t cook).
Tomorrow morning, I’ll throw on a small ruck with 20lbs or so and go for a 5k brisk walk.

Somewhere in the basement storage area, we have encyclopedia from 1955, I am not sure where exactly. I know exactly where the updates for 1956 to 1976 are though.
We have several books on back to basic kinds of activities, like butchering, smoking meat, making apple butter outdoors etc.

We often have electrical outages here in Missouri, and they can last longer than the weekend more often than you would think. It’s never a big deal, as we have several ways of doing the necessities.
In my younger years, we had a hot water heater that quit working, and had no money to buy a new one, or pay anyone to come and see if it could be fixed. Hubby said he was going to pull it out and fix it. I said that’s a relief.
Then he procrastinated like crazy. Meanwhile we took Granny Showers using an old water can with a sprinkler head, which is how Granny did it down on the old farm. Finally after about 6 months, one of Hubby’s friends shamed him into getting the job done for which I was very grateful.

Hubby is 63 and is working on a tree a big oak that fell across our trail last fall. He’s been doing a little each day after work, in the cutting stage right now.
