The House Just Did Something Sneaky to Pass the 'Doc Fix'

House GOP leaders on Thursday used a voice vote to pass a temporary health care fix, surprising members.

Maneuvering around last-second snags with some backroom intrigue, House GOP leaders used a voice vote Thursday to pass another temporary patch to prevent a massive cut to doctors' Medicare payments.

The decision by Republican leaders to circumvent the planned roll-call vote caught many of their own members by surprise.

"They voiced it? Oh, my God," exclaimed Budget Chairman Paul Ryan as he walked onto the House floor.

Democrats could have opposed the process and demanded a roll-call vote be taken, but House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi had given assurances they wouldn't do that. At the very least, the use of a voice vote does not provide the public with a record of who actually supported the measure and who opposed it.

The bill is now expected to be taken up by the Senate.

GOP REPS. LET MEDICARE 'DOC FIX' BILL PASS WITHOUT VOTE

The maneuver wasn't without its critics, however. Minutes after the bill passed, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) went to the House floor to denounce the tactic, saying it reminded him of how Rep. Nancy Pelosi used to rule the House when she was Speaker

It's things like this that make me very leery of a Republican win in the upcoming elections… their win may be our loss.

You sound surprised?

RE “Democrats could have opposed the process and demanded a roll-call vote be taken”: nobody on the GOP could have opposed and demanded a vote?? Wonder how THAT works.

Call me cynical that many in the GOP would have voiced PASS but then taken to the floor/airwaves to make a racket

Louie Gohmert had a very good speech decrying this on the House floor yesterday-it was broadcast on C-SPAN.

The gist of it being that Republican members can't even trust their leaders any longer-although I honestly don't know when they could.

Nancy Pelosi had given assurances

If Pelosi's for it, I'm a'gin it!

'Course, I can usually say the same for Boehner.

Now I wonder what these two turds of a feather are cooking up?

Both parties want this delay in cuts for Medicare doctors to get them by the election.

And all the Senators will vote for the delay also.

“It’s things like this that make me very leery of a Republican win in the upcoming elections”

It’s unlikely “the people” will like anything politicians do. We’re stuck with choosing the method of our enslavement; fast or slow. I was hoping the tea party might put enough candidates in to insulate “the people” from government for a decade or so. But our loss of freedom has been constant, now faster, now slower. If it’s a RINO or a communist, I vote RINO. (Donning protective gear, hunkering down. Pulling lid over head.)

If you cut doctors’ payments for medicare too much they will simply stop caring for medicare paients because it isn’t worth their time. Many don’t accept medicare now becuase the return on their time along with the bureaucratic nightmare of dealing with medicare simple isn’t worth it to them.

Is the heat beginning to rise in the Democrat kitchen?

There is no way to determine who was present in the House or how they voted when it was “deemed” 2/3 oral votes had been achieved.

Maybe Ryan will wake up from his slumber and realize he is spooning with the enemy.

The only thing this does is help Democrats will older voters.

Boehner is doing everything possible to undermine conservatives.

I agree, the issue of Medicare payments is important, but my focus here is the sneak factor for the 1 year temporary fix.

Doctors groups, such as the American Medical Association, have been lobbying for a permanent change in Medicare's payment formula rather than the temporary patches Congress always passes.

If it’s a RINO or a communist, I vote RINO.

I would not.
The 2008 election was the last time I voted for the lesser of two evils — to my everlasting shame I did pull the lever for McCain.
I did however promise myself that I would not ever vote in favor of someone because the other guy's worse but instead vote for somebody; this promise saved me from voting in favor of Romney (I voted for Gary Johnson). — In short the Republican party [RINO] does not get my vote by default, the candidate has to earn it by convincing me that he is a [fairly] good candidate… now I could be fooled, or mistaken as to his character, but if I'm voting because he seems agreeable to both my sensibilities and conscience then I won't be ashamed and condemned by my conscience for having voted in his favor.

This is how they will pass Scamnesty too. Most likely that was how they got Bug Eyes to go along with it.

Boehner just shoved another one up America’s back side.

So Bonehead teamed up with the Pelosi and the Rats to stick it to conservatives. Again.

He needs to be stripped of the Speakership, as of yesterday. Gowdy for Speaker!

The next doctor fix will be to fix it that they have no say who they treat and how much they make. Take medicare crap payments, lose, money, or go to jail. That’s a nice medical practice certificate you have there. It’d be a shame if something were to happen to it.

I find it hard to believe he didn’t know.
