Jerk of the Week - American Medical Association

That time of the week has come again where we sift through the debris of the preceding week and find out which person or group has been acting against the American people. Sometimes these entities are cloaked in the aura of righteousness, but they can mostly be described as hypocrites or opportunists. Our Jerk of the Week this time is a surprising choice is it is a group that represents an occupation that most Americans greatly respect and admire: doctors. Recently, the American Medical Association began to whine about an obscure rule in ObamaCare that could cost medical practitioners a great deal. Normally I would be sympathetic to their concern as ObamaCare is screwing the entire nation, but this is a situation that they brought upon themselves. You see, the AMA was a huge supporter of the Affordable Care Act. This is why the American Medical Association is our Jerk of the Week.

This week the AMA began bleating about a provision in ObamaCare that dictates that if a person is not paying their premiums, they have a 90 day grace period before their health insurance policy is canceled. It seems that the burden of shouldering that costs rests squarely upon the manically evil (in the minds of liberals) insurance companies. As conservatives, we know how to do arithmetic, which allows us to not have budget deficits in our own lives. The scenario above then leaves 60 days where a person is covered, but who gets stuck with those costs? The answer is physicians and health care providers. Yep, the very group that helped foist ObamaCare upon an unwilling public now find themselves potentially stuck with a tab for non-payers. I do so love irony, don't you?

Now the truth is that the American Medical Association really only has about 17% of the country's doctors as members, with a full third of those are those in training (probably looks good on the resume). In fact, when asked if the views of the AMA on ObamaCare represented their own belief, a full 70% of doctors said no. Still, the media and the public erroneously believe that the AMA speaks for most people in the health provider field. After the AMA endorsed ObamaCare, they lost 5% (12,000) of their membership in the following year.

It gets even better. The AMA acts just like any other progressive liberal in that a policy or law is fine as long as it takes money out of other people's pockets. Yet the moment that THEY have to start paying for it, they start sending out maydays and freaking out. Some hospitals have considered helping patients pay for their health insurance as to keep them covered if they are at risk. The AMA does not endorse this plan and goes as far to say that doctors "should exercise extreme caution" before even discussing the possibility with patients. No, sir! Not one dime out of their pockets even though the rest of us are paying through the nose for the same or lesser policy that we had previously.

Truth be told, the AMA somehow, and crazily, thought that ObamaCare would usher in a flood of new revenue for them. But the moment they realized that they might be on the hook for any of the costs, they began to squeal like a stuck pig. Thus they proved that they are utter hypocrites, and that is why the American Medical Association is our Jerk of the Week.

AMA is an organization with about 15-18% medical drs as members...that represent a minority yet TPTB including the SCM hail to them as if they are the end all...

Once the AMA endorsed 0Care they were dead to me.

Until it is made illegal I anticipate seeing a lot of signs that say “CASH ONLY” in doctor offices.

Let's not put the blame on all doctors. A doctor is not required to join the American Medical Association. It's just like joining The Library Association or The Antique Furniture Association. I saw an article about this and the American Medical Association does not reflect the opinion of every doctor in this country and they don't have to join and can quit anytime they want - just don't send in the money next time. Next time you go to your doctor, ask if he/she is a member. Ask if he/she supported Obamacare from the beginning.

the original purpose for the existence of the AMA was to use the power of the government to eliminate competitors such as chiropractors, homeopathic doctors, etc. They've largely succeeded in doing that. Now they're nothing but a racket. It's no mystery why so few doctors belong. Even the AMA Journal is devoted more to pushing drugs than to scientific articles.

“Truth be told, the AMA somehow, and crazily, thought that ObamaCare would usher in a flood of new revenue for them.”

No the truth be told they believed a completely unbelievable
lie and like the good libtards that they are thought that
no one would notice. They were all on board to force this
on us and they knew the damage it would do. These are doctors,
supposedly, some of the best educated people and here they
are supporting the nationalization of an industry that in
the hands of these people may end up in genocide.
So much for the hippocratic oath and liberalism.
Not that we have a choice now but if possible, any doctor
that is affiliated with the AMA in any way should be avoided. Of course the tards will make membership in the
AMA mandatory for doctors to practice.

What made them think that they would not be F’D like everyone else? If appears that their brains were on vacation and their ears were listening to mac daddy tell them about all the extra money they would get from the tax payers under ocare.

Visions of tax payers money pouring into pockets blinded their eyes, ears and minds.

Now you know that mac daddy and his willing mindless elected sock puppet officials could have cared less about you or the America tax payers even after the mind numbingly stupid statement “We have to pass it to know what is in it” made by the most stupid person in Washington and yet you supported it. Stupid is as stupid does, who are the whining dummies now?

The AMA and insurance companies went suicidal in their support of the Unaffordable “Care” Act.

My wife’s cousin is a past president of the medical society of dc. The local chapter of the AMA.

He and others met with and made presentations to the national board in opposition to obc. To no avail.

He and others did some research and advised republicans in the congress.

Great write!

Thanks! :)

I would definitely prefer a doctor that did not belong to the AMA. My family doctor growing up came from Cuba as he and his family fled Cuba. He had no patience for big-government types. Great doctor and an even finer person.
