What a doofus. Postal systems were a for profit arrangement in Franklins time. The job of postmaster for a given area or territory was secured at the cost of the postmaster. How efficiently and effectively the service ran decided the postmasters "salary". It was completely possible for the postmaster to lose money, and some did. But liberals apparently aren't too big on history, because they love repeating it so often.
