You are probably thinking of the book "Unintended Consequences" by John Ross:
Available in PDF format here: Unintended Consequences
Available in hard copy here: Unintended Consequences at Amazon
I tried to convert the pdf file to Kindle format, but the result was sub-optimal.
Thank you Matt for putting these up for free. I got "Enemies" the first time it was free and bought the other two. Great books all.

Yeah, Jamal Tambor, our first Malaysian-American president. No resemblance to any person, living or dead.

Of the two I think I prefer Jamal to Barrack. Jamal is just your typical mass murderer while Barack is like ghosties and ghoulies and long-legged beasties and things that go bump in the night along with just being an all around creep.

Just started Enemies Foreign and Domestic on my tablet. Got to the end of the first chapter and started shaking my head.

The overall story, characters and many scenes in EFAD hold up pretty well after a decade, but my writing craft has improved a lot, so don’t give up.

I did notice a few odd word choices, but that wasn’t why I was shaking my head. It’s because of what the president said at the end of the chapter. Doesn’t surprise me at all. I can’t wait for the day Obama comes out and says that. That, or says he’s doing to outlaw black rifles by EO.

Have you started reading DETR yet? It took me three years between EFAD and DETR, so I think the experience of reading one right after the other must be pretty nice.

I have not started reading DETR yet. I just bought EFAD Sunday night and I'm working on it. I'll probably finish it today and then move on to DETR.
Thanks again and excellent work.
