Thanks for posting. My experience on police is that most encounters with them are professional. The non-professional percentage is too high, but it’s still a minority in most situations and in most neighborhoods. I have had a couple of minor unpleasant incidents with police in which they were wrong or reckless, but mostly positive experiences. So far, I haven’t lost any pets to the police.
I can understand how that might seem to be the case. The dogs have very good discretion insofar as human intent goes. Bella is the leader when it comes to security. Caesar follows her lead. Bella barked when the police drove up - I heard her I in my sleep, but she stopped almost immediately. I took that bark to be a passerby or a neighbor, but not a threat. Her alert to a threat is a very different bark. When the Officers approached the gate they harbored no ill will so Bella stopped barking. They did not enter the front yard or the story would have had a very different ending. Neither Bella nor Caesar will abide an on-property intruder.
Oh, and the dogs don’t have access, physical or visual, to the back yard (where the police came over the fence). That needs to be changed.
Yup, that's what I was saying, right there :)
And you’re right. I’m already making changes. Thanks for pointing that out :-)
