Senator Ted Cruz Travels to Iowa, Fueling Speculation of Presidential Run...
Ted Cruz News ^ | 10 August 2013 | Ted Cruz News

Posted on 08/10/2013 4:40:32 AM PDT by Reaganite Republican

As rumors brew further regarding Sen. Ted Cruz's (R-Texas) 2016 presidential ambitions, the bold champion of constitutional conservatism is off to Iowa today (Saturday) to meet with/speak to a conservative group in the influential primary state. The event will be in conjunction with the Family Leadership Summit, and held at Iowa State University (Ames) this afternoon.

Cruz made an appearance in New Hampshire -the first voting primary state, vital for any 2016 hopeful- just last month, where he headlined a NH state Republican Party fundraiser, and has already popped up in early-voting South Carolina, where the good Senator spoke at the 'Silver Elephant' GOP dinner.

For today's Iowa visit, a Cruz spokeswoman stated “The senator is honored to be attending the Family Leadership Summit at the group's invitation and looks forward to sharing his vision for how to get our nation back on track, and how conservative principles are the key to empowering American families to prosper”.

Another lively, principled, and entertaining conservative speaker -Ted Cruz’s own Cuban-immigrant father Rafael- will also be speaking to the group today in Ames, Iowa. And if you haven't caught him in action yourself- he's something to behold.

My friends, don't forget that this is the same Ted Cruz that even insect-like Democratic guru James Carville sees as "The most talented and fearless Republican in 30 years" who "WILL run for president...
and will create something."

Me? I sure can't think of another candidate I'd prefer to see run...
this is what we need.

I believe Cruz IS eligible and the Dems and their pundits don’t DARE go there! Why...because I think Mr. Snowden, now of Russian locale, has more background info than we can imagine. And our registered for student aide as a foreign national Dear Leader knows. Can we just imagine the fun the “slouching bored student in the back of the room” would have causing a Constitutional crisis in the US?

Cruz is eligible (even if he’s not!).

He has been my first choice. Followed by Mike Lee or Rand Paul. I believe ANY “R” who gets it would be wise to make Gov. Sarah Palin Energy Secretary to over see everything from the Keystone XL to fracking across the US.

I’m really not sure right now who I would want to be her 2nd pick. I think it’s too early. We have to see which ones will take a stand to stop Obama on Amnesty and the Affordable Health Care Act.

I’m not certain I am 100% in support of Palin opposing the Obama health plan.

We need to build an alternative, first.

Only then, would I support opposing Obama’s plan.

The GOP is currently in default. Which is to say, in legacy system mode.

Our healthcare system is broken. Badly broken.

We might be on opposing sides of the issue, currently.

Just saying.

Cruz is definitely not eligible.

Cruz was a citizen at birth. He's plenty eligible. He's as American as anyone you know.

Y'lall should stick to your Obama investigations - trying to figure out who his parents really were and where he was really born.

Cruz - 2016

Yes Cruz was a ‘Citizen’ at birth born a foreign sovereignty but to be president you have to be a ‘natural born Citizen’. Being a Citizen is not good enough. And don’t lecture me on what I need to be doing!

True fact. Cruz only need be a citizen to be eligible for Senate, but a natural born citizen to be eligible for the Presidency.

Cruz is eligible (even if he’s not!).

I agree that the Obama precedent will allow Cruz to run. Unfortunately all the leftists have to do is peel off a few die-hard "birthers" (and I used to be one) from his support and he loses.

Too bad he’s not eligible.

Sorry to disappoint those who would like to destroy possibly the best candidate conservatives have, but Cruz is eligible.

"It is not necessary that a man should be born in this country, to be 'a natural born citizen.' It is only requisite that he should be a citizen by birth, and that is the case with all the children of citizens who have ever resided in this country, though born in a foreign country."

- James Bayard, A Brief Exposition of the Constitution of the United States (1833)

Bayard's exposition of the Constitution was read and approved by the Great Chief Justice of the Supreme Court John Marshall, by the legendary Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story, and by the famous Chancellor James Kent, as well as other legal experts of the early United States.

Not one single person ever said he was wrong about his understanding of what "natural born citizen" meant.

I agree 100% with promoting Cruz.

If he’s eligible, he can win.

If he somehow is found not to be, we win for having promoted him without any hesitation.

This is all good. Cruz 2016.

(Well, Palin too)

Incidentally, that quote was Bayard's discussion of Presidential eligibility.

Cruz / Palin. Palin / Cruz. Either way is fine by me.

I think that nine out of ten ordinary people will intuitively agree with Bayard. And, in the context of 2016, nearly all of the people who disagree will be those people who just want another gratuitous excuse to oppose Cruz because they oppose him for other reasons. Not one in a thousand will get themselves all tangled up in this Vattel baloney.

I can round up a good 100 votes for him but since most of those votes are in New England it ain’t gonna do him a helluva lot of good. And that doesn’t count the gun club where everybody votes against liberals.

I take it that ‘CitizenS’ refers to/means that both parents have to be ‘citizens’. Do you have a reference that Bayard did not mean such? All the judges and experts surely could/would have made any/some differentiation in writings you reference.

I think I agree.

I just get sick of all the anti-Constitutional, anti-history bullsh*t.

At least around here, all this “both parents have to be citizens” baloney is going to evaporate over the next few years. After that, you’ll have to go to left wing websites to find it (assuming Cruz runs).

Yes. It's in the statement he made.

If you're "born a citizen," then as far as the American legal system and the experts of the early United States are concerned, you're a natural born citizen.

That's all it means.

So if you were born a citizen because you had one citizen parent, like Cruz, you're good to go.

The Founding Fathers wanted to exclude anyone from the Presidency who was not born a United States citizen.
