All-New 2014 Jeep Cherokee: UGLY as Homemade Shoes!
Reaganite Republican ^ | 25 March 2013 | Reaganite Republican

What were they thinking...

As a lifelong car nut, I can assure you I'm about as open-minded as they get when it comes to automotive design... and if FIAT did even one thing good with Chrysler  I just kind of assumed the Italians would be bringing some dashing, innovative styling to Mopars and Jeeps over the next few years... THEN THIS!

Pics of next year's replacement for the Jeep Liberty have been released, the 'bold' 2014 Jeep Cherokee: while there's no denying some original thinking here, the interwebs have exploded with derision, revulsion... and cackles of laughter:

"Kill it with fire"

"EpicSuperMegaFAIL face"

"The Catfish"

Those are some of the harsher critiques that greeted Jeep's "bold" new Cherokee on automotive websites around the world within hours of its unveiling.

The all-new mid-size SUV features polarising styling, with the recognisable seven-slot grille sporting a prominent horizontal crease through its centre.

Slimline headlights and larger, squared-off fog-lights and a thick, angular front bumper help cement the new look for a Cherokee that clearly looks as though it will appeal to a different market to the squarer Cherokees that have typified the breed...

Speaking of ugly cars...

Most all new cars look like or are shaped like shoes...

Most all of them look alike and most all suck as far as looks go.

Why do all these new SUV’s have the antenna right where you would put your canoe or other roof top stowed sporting equipment? They seem to be taking the “sport utility” out of sport utility vehicle.

Most airplane wings are shaped the same too, and for the same reason: aerodynamics. Pressure for an extra mpg. And all new cars feel like sitting in a bathtub with high ‘beltline’. Apparently to make it easier to meet safety standards.

You want to see a catfish, look at the Ford Focus ST.

I stand corrected - the Focus wins on the catfish front! :) The underlying Cherokee doesn't look particularly memorable or objectionable except for the fascia - reminds me of Subaru trying to be forward looking with the fascia of the first generation Tribeca. It looked like Karl Malden, so help me God. They ended up changing it, as is almost surely going to happen with the Cherokee front end.

Wasn’t Mitsubishi in bed with Chrysler in the late 1980s and early 1990s?

The most catfish-like car, IMO, was the 3rd generation Camaro. Particularly the ones with the gray upper body paint combined with white rocker panels and front and rear skirts/air dams. That body shape combined with the "fish belly" color combo was most repulsive. All it needed were some curb feeler "whiskers".

The step at the rear window then topping it off with a little chrome border really did the trick.

I recently bough an older (but with brand new turbo diesel engine and fully re-done) Land Rover Defender.

Amazing vehicle.

Look at Hyundai. Some models are assembled right here in the USA. Great little cars. We have two.

Most SUVs are tall station wagons with poorer gas mileage.

Yeah and they are making the new Darts out to be a sports car. What planet are they from? My ‘67 had trouble making it up to 50 mph.
