All-New 2014 Jeep Cherokee: UGLY as Homemade Shoes!
Reaganite Republican ^ | 25 March 2013 | Reaganite Republican

What were they thinking...

As a lifelong car nut, I can assure you I'm about as open-minded as they get when it comes to automotive design... and if FIAT did even one thing good with Chrysler  I just kind of assumed the Italians would be bringing some dashing, innovative styling to Mopars and Jeeps over the next few years... THEN THIS!

Pics of next year's replacement for the Jeep Liberty have been released, the 'bold' 2014 Jeep Cherokee: while there's no denying some original thinking here, the interwebs have exploded with derision, revulsion... and cackles of laughter:

"Kill it with fire"

"EpicSuperMegaFAIL face"

"The Catfish"

Those are some of the harsher critiques that greeted Jeep's "bold" new Cherokee on automotive websites around the world within hours of its unveiling.

The all-new mid-size SUV features polarising styling, with the recognisable seven-slot grille sporting a prominent horizontal crease through its centre.

Slimline headlights and larger, squared-off fog-lights and a thick, angular front bumper help cement the new look for a Cherokee that clearly looks as though it will appeal to a different market to the squarer Cherokees that have typified the breed...

Speaking of ugly cars...

Yeah the existing Patriot is a similarly configured unibody “soft roader” as they say.

99% of these will never go off road, they’re for soccer moms and dads to feel adventurous.

Wow, that thing is AWFUL. So now we’re going back to the space bubble look?

Glad I bought my Jeep in 2011. It’s a nice looking car. This new one... not so much.

Or the AMC Pacer.

Was that a Romney-approved design?

I’m guessing that the side view somewhat resembles a Chevy Traverse? This is unsettling.

That Jeep is bad, but it has a lot of competition:

Mazda 3
Kia Soul
Nissan Juke
Land Rover Evoque
Nissan Leaf
Toyota Prius

It's a Chevy Traverse with a new grill

The grill (ugliest part) looks like multiples of a grill I think I have seen on some other car - I just can’t place where.

Given the existence of the very capable, cool looking Wrangler Unlimited, with its inexhaustible aftermarket options and customability, why would one even consider a Chook?

The body lines sorta resemble BMW, which isn’t bad. But the front end just sucks. Yeesh ... what were they thinking???

Whoever coined The Catfish was right about the front end. Not sure there's anything particularly memorable about the rest of the vehicle - who on earth came up with that "face"??

Well, the lower grill looks like it came from a KIA (aka killed in action). The upper grill sort of looks like 3 1/2 BMWs.

Something similar resulted in Chrysler ten years ago when they mated with the Germans. The last Axis power is probably too smart to knock boots with them.

Recall if you will that Jeeps are made in China.

The bastard child of Jeep and Fiat is desirable in the neighborhoods of affluent thirtyish China babes.

As goes China, so goes Jeep

When they took the divisions of the old grill out of the grill enclosure they were part of, placing them in a row on the skin, without the enclosure, they made a feature that was not exactly horrible into one that is awful. Redesigning the grill segments with the slight fold back half way up did not improve what was lost by removing them from the grill enclosure they had been part of. In my personal opinion.

Don’t forget the role government requirements for average gas mileage play in turning everything into bullet shaped repulsiveness.

It looks like a generic SUV. Jeep is stupid to give up their distinctive look.

You want to see a catfish, look at the Ford Focus ST. That car, by the way, has the ugliest interior ever designed.
