Geraldo: Time to Take God Out of St. Patrick's Day
NewsBusters ^

Posted on 03/24/2013 11:33:58 AM PDT by chessplayer

This is a little late, but still wacky. On his radio show March 15, Fox News host Geraldo Rivera thinks the Irish really ought to take God out of Saint Patrick's Day.

"Having been a participant in plenty of St. Patrick's Day celebrations, I just have to say that one of the last things on my mind [was] to venerate St. Patrick. God bless him and all he did, [but] I just don't believe the celebration, I think it's largely a secular celebration," he argued. "More like Mardi Gras, isn't it?"

What he really meant is it is time to outlaw God in the USSA.

Pray for America

They do precisely that when they write Christmas as Xmas. I can remember one Christmas the Lutheran School near us wrote on their windows Merry Xmas. I called and complained who was the nitwit that did that!

Yes Christmas, Easter, Saint Patrick’s Day, all those pesky little holidays that are actually Christian holidays and were slammed with marketing in an illusion in order to make the public think that’s it’s okay for a 10 yr old to shop at Victoria Secret...all going down hill...media is not on the decedent side of the street - they are the ones handing out the matches and jars of gasoline whispering in the ears of the mob to torch cars and run wild in the streets...I wonder if Whoraldo will make the statement that “Islam should be taken out of Ramadan?”

Saint Patrick’s Day in the United States is much different than Saint Patrick’s Day in Ireland. Here it is celebrated with Scottish music (bagpipes),Jewish food (corned beef), and awful fake Irish accents.

So...we would just call it “Patrick’s Day”?

"Why WABC radio replaced Crummy with Geraldo is a complete mystery"

Ratings. The Imus lead in did nothing for Crummy. Gerry Rivers' connection to Fox allowed for cross promotion and Imus's audience would more like tune in a NYer like Rivers than a conservative. Rivers' audience tunes our Rush but he has a whole following who tune in at noon and stay through Levin. Expect changes in the next six months when you'll see Rush and Hannity move down to 710 WOR. Then WABC will probably counter program with less conservative personalities.

Yes, Geraldo; what ever you say: it's a secular holiday...and so is Christmas, and Easter, and Good Friday ("every Friday is good, but on Good Friday, one get's 3 hours off to go get drinks"), and Thanksgiving, and all those other religious holidays you pagans try to usurp.

Well if the democrats voted to take out any mention of God at their convention why should it surprize anyone some people want to remove God from St Patrick’s Day then of course Easter and above all Christmas.

Actually St Patrick’s Day is a national HOLYDAY as well as a holiday in Ireland.

This is exactly what atheists are trying to do to Christmas and Easter also. They want God out of everything.

I would agree with him that St. Patrick’s Day has become secularized. In Chicago the parade has long been controlled by politicians, conveniently timed shortly before the local elections. Local parishes do not focus on religion, but rather focus on it as a time for fundraising and casino nights. And the religious aspect seems to be lost on the students at U of Dayton. Likewise regarding Mardi Gras, I believe a very low percentage of those celebrating on Tuesday are at church atoning on Wednesday. I took his comments to mean that to pretend the ‘celebration’ of St. Patrick’s Day is tied to religion is a charade, so why continue to do so.

So, does that mean it is just “Patrick’s Day”?

Here in South Carolina there’s a street fair/rock fest loosely referred to as Saint Patrick’s Day. From the look of the crowd it could be called the return of the Black & Tans.

Newsflash: 1. bagpipes are instruments common to Celtic culture, and exist and are used in the traditional music of Ireland, Scotland and Galicia in Spain. 2. Corned beef and cabbage is a traditional dish of Irish immigrants - according to a recipe from my great grandmother, Margaret Leahy. 3. The fake Irish accents, and across the board wearing of green are a tribute to the accomplishments of the Irish in America: on St Patrick’s Day, everyone wants to be Irish.

Take Christianity out of everything Geraldo. Then what do you have? Green beer splashed in you face, a sucker punch to knock you cold, your clothes ripped off and your possessions taken. Did I say you would live? The godless zombies will take that too. Without Christianity, you would be worth no more than a flush of the toilet and the best thing you can do is run.

How long would you live in a world without Christianity, Geraldo? Two months after conception?
