I strongly suggest you do raw pack, and follow directions you can get from your county extension agent or your state ag guys.

I’ve educated myself about various weapons but I have a question - What companies make the best ammo? Ammo that is as “clean” as it can get so it doesn’t dirty up the mechanism of the gun any more than it has to. I need to know this. Thanks.

Yes, and they are common. Check your hardware store to get the right fitting for your compressor.

I’ll soon be adding a Ruger 10/22 Carbine Rifle to my “inventory” and I want clean ammo for that plus I need to know the company that makes the cleanest ammo for other weapons.

I use all kinds of commercial ammo, mainly US brands, but some Ruski.

The modern stuff is much better than the older stuff used to be.

But Hoppes #9 puts everything right after a day at the range, and it doubles as a great aftershave. ;)

I’ve read that Federal ammo is dirtier than others but I don’t know if this is true.

I really need to know what company ammo is the best.

I don't know that I've got Federal in stock. I've never noticed much difference in any of the brands except PMC, which I won't buy anymore.

Stick with Winchester and Remington, and you should be fine.

With the .22s, I've got a bunch of bricks of Winchester I bought years ago, and they do just fine. I also like CCI for .22LR.

Buy a 50 round box of the major brands and see how they feed in your new rifle. Go with the one that feeds the best.

Check your stores for after-holdiay clearance. I found about 4 cans of Campbells canned gravy for 0.68 per can.

Also some canned pie filling for a couple of bucks per can

Doing some reading, and CCI seems to be a top brand. You also noted CCI so maybe that is the route to go.

CCI is harsh on small game. I've never had any run far after taking a dose.

I think all my rat-shot is CCI as well.

Plenty good for most .22s, but expensive, compared to Winchester (or used to be).

Most important thing is to buy a 50 round box and see how it feeds and ejects from YOUR rifle.

Then go with what doesn't cause problems.

Be sure to buy high capacity magazines to supplement the 10-rounder that comes with that 10/22. Just the sight of a 25-30 round magazine frightens squirrels & rabbits deader than dead. Only makes libruls mess their pants, alas.

“Just the sight of a 25-30 round magazine”

I haven’t found one that large. Do you know who carries those?

I. Don’t know about freeze dried. But I have a dehydrator, a dim dehydrating foods that would have spoiled before they could be eaten. I’ve dehydrated apples, potatoes, celery, onions, peas, corn, carrots. I love having all that food on hand.

The 10/22 is a very popular model of .22. Wouldn’t surprise me if a Walmart down there in Texas carries 25-rounders. But if not, any local gunshop, outdoor sports supplier like Gander Mountain, or website like CheaperThanDirt.com or MidwayUSA.com carries them - tho they may be short on stock due to the political climate. Congrats on the soon-to-be acquisition.

There are drums for that gun as well, tho I wouldn’t trust it for other than plinking.
