I’m of the same era but never heard of it even in Dallas. You’d think DISD would have had it long before Hawaii. No college friends mentioned being in AP. First I ever heard about it was when our kids began Honors classes in middle school so they could get into AP in HS.

I've only heard about it in the last 10 years. They certainly didn't have it in the HS I went to back around 1980. As far as I'm concerned, every class we took should have been an AP class compared with today's schools. Our grade scale was this:
