In the hours and days following the Newtown massacre, the media reported a metric [edited] of what were later discovered to be incorrect details, including the identity of the shooter, his mom's connection to the school, where she was killed, how Adam Lanza got into the building, and the weapons he used. Now we can add another one to the list: Adam Lanza was not wearing body armor, but "a fishing type vest, a jacket with a lot of pockets," according to a Connecticut state police spokesman.
It's not exactly clear where the misinformation started, but ABC News reported on the day of the shooting that Lanza was "wearing a bulletproof vest," according to "sources," and Fox 5 News's Ti-Hua Cheng "cited a law enforcement source that Lanza came into the school wearing black clothing over a bullet proof vest."
The media's inadvertent spreading of false information about the Newtown shooting is hardly without precedent. As author Dave Cullen told On the Media last week, much of what we initially heard about the Columbine massacre was flawed, too. "Two loner, outcast goths from the Trenchcoat Mafia went on a revenge slaying where they targeted jocks specifically to pay them back for years of relentless bullying," Cullen recalled. "Everything that I just said is wrong." Nevertheless, Cullen notes that "everyone, almost, still believes" that original narrative, as well as other details of the rampage — such as the girl who was supposedly killed for believing in God — that were later disproved.
Someone needs to follow up on the Bushmaster. She was from New England someplace. I had the impression from the media that she may have bought it. Didn’t one report mention her talking about her guns with her friends?
If the Bushmaster was not an assault rifle under CT law, that needs to be put out on the internet. If it was a banned firearm under CT law, that needs to be put out there too.
I agree - I’m a writer and I’ve worked in media and with people who are famous, and the number of gratuitous errors every single time are just astonishing. I have also been quoted as a source, and they mangle that too. I have learned to never do what Nixon did, when he said “I am not a crook.” Because all they hear is the word that you are saying that you are not. (He should have said,” these accusations against me are completely unfounded.”)
I would add that journalists are uneducated and ignorant in a way that’s difficult to imagine if you don’t see them close up. And add to that, shameless. They don’t care when they get things wrong.
It’s hardly ‘AR-15’ style if there is no barrel shroud.
The mind of the msm:
a handgun, rifle, prop rifle or an umbrella = fully automatic assault weapon
a fishing vest = bullet proof armor
black shirt or jacket = far right winged conservative gang colors
two or more guns = an arsenal
a registered gun owner = scary survivalist
a prepper = a selfish hoarder
a gun shop = more dangerous to children on their way to school than a porn shop
“AR-15” style is irrelevant. Was or was not the Bushmaster an assault rife as defined by CT or the by federal government previously. If it was, it was illegal in CT. If it wasn’t the media was wrong in calling it an assault rifle as was everyone else that jumped on the bandwagon.
Either way there’s an important point that needs to be put out to the public. If was an assault rifle it was illegal in CT. If it wasn’t the media was wrong. Either way someone needs to be kicked in the balls until they understand.
When these seemingly unexplainable mass murders happen I sometimes wonder what the current state of the art is in “programming” someone to commit a horrendous act like this. Can it be done? Does anyone out there have any knowledge on this subject?
There is no "he" since it was women who were shot. The superintendant said he didn't know anything about a confrontation but then he might not have known about it and we haven't heard any of the other teachers mention it. Some reporters claim it happened at school and others claim it happened at the gun store the day before. Problem with the gun store story is that Lanza was supposedly at the gun store the previous week. We also haven't heard about it from any gun store employee or the wounded teacher. I'm chalking any confrontation up to more msm bs. I'm also chalking all the mom's connection to the school as bs as well as any lib pansy speak about bad feelings he had from his school days. As mental as he was, he wasn't stupid. He knew full well that the school was a freak's gun free soft target wonderland with little innocent targets who couldn't fight back and that this would put his name down in history. Same as that freak who shot the firemen a couple days ago, because he wanted to.
Last I knew, the Bushmaster was NOT used in the school at all. Has that somehow changed?
There were survivors and witnesses at Newtown. How can we go from “2 handguns were used, and a .223 was taken from the trunk of his car” to “the .223 was used for most of the shooting”? How on EARTH does that get changed without anyone asking questions?
The medical examiner said that the bodies he checked were shot with a .223. He examined about half of the victims. It’s unclear whether Lanza left the Bushmaster or the shotgun in the trunk of the car from the different ,edia reports.
We know he took two pistols and some kind of long gun into the school. My guess is some of the bullets hit the walls. If the walls are concrete block a .223 may have penetrated. I don’t think a 9mm would. Anyone who saw the scene afterwards should have seen clues as to what was used.
The police should know the difference between a 9mm casing and a .223. We need to reach out as in friend to friend to friend ... to try and get info from someone that was in that school afterwards.
Someone also had to clean up and possibly patch and paint walls. They would also know what happened or be able to describe the scene so that some knowledgeable about ballistics would have a clue. We need to start digging.
How?
...a phone call would do it. The absence of any record that shows which guns were registered to Mrs. Lanza makes for a lack of evidence, doesn’t it.
Not that evidence is ever planted or anything...or even fabricated out of whole cloth to suit an agenda...like 27 people vs. near complete confiscation of guns...
What? Like most schools Sandy Hook apparently didn't hire males.. Sounds like a prerequisite for employment was being female. 3 of the alleged 4 in the argument with Lanza were killed. The sole survivor hasn't said anything yet about an alleged argument. Probably just the media grabbing at straws trying to provide cover in fomenting a motive for Adam when all along this was indeed a 'false flag' possibly perpetrated by foreign players.. Just like 9/11, instigated by a man in Afghanistan. Could very well be a similar terrorist attack using an American citizen who was quite eager to protect their identity by destroying the one link to them; his computer.
And what a coincidence.. Nancy Lanza is dead, so we don’t know WHO the guns belonged to, or if her safe was ever really opened, or if it was Adam that killed her, or if it was really Adam that destroyed his computer. The STANK from this event so conveniently timed to primer the start of 0bama’s second term reeks of putrid vile vomit.

Based on the info at the link the Bushmaster used in the Newtown killing IS NOT an assault rifle since it was legal to own in CT. Someone need to shove that fact up the media’s ass.

Supposedly he had a couple of rifles in the car, but took the AR-15 and two handguns in the school with him.
