Obama to GOP: Save the middle class from me

Instead of negotiating with Congress for a deal, Barack Obama is out there campaigning for his tax increase plans.

President Barack Obama is urging Congress to pass an extension of tax cuts for middle class families, saying a tax increase for them would be like a "lump of coal" for Christmas.

In his first campaign-style event to sell his solution on the "fiscal cliff," Obama says in the Philadelphia suburbs that Republicans should extend existing Bush-era tax rates for households earning $250,000 or less, while allowing increases to kick in for the wealthy.

He says both sides need to "get out of our comfort zones" to reach an agreement.

He toured a manufacturing facility that builds construction toys, joking that he's keeping his own "naughty and nice list" for Congress and urging the public to pressure lawmakers to pass the tax cut extension for the middle class.

He doesn't want the GOP to hold the middle class tax cuts "hostage":

President Barack Obama says it's unacceptable for some congressional Republicans to "hold middle-class tax cuts hostage" because they don't want tax rates to rise on the wealthy.

In his weekly radio and Internet address Saturday, Obama says the average middle-class family of four could pay $2,200 more in taxes next year after the fiscal cliff. He says Republicans could give families "a sense of security going into the New Year" by extending tax cuts for the middle class.

Hold the hostage? To what?

On August 2, 2011 Barack Obama signed the debt limit bill into law.

The bill also creates a congressional committee charged with closing the deficit an additional $1.2 trillion to $1.5 trillion. If the panel deadlocks or Congress doesn't accept its plan, a prearranged set of spending cuts would kick in, including steep cuts to defense and entitlement programs poised as a guillotine to prod the committee and Congress to act.

The law states that unless Congress averts the previous law, the Bush tax rates expire and some serious budget cuts take place. It was negotiated by the "Gang of Six."

Then on August 7, 2012 Barack Obama signed the Sequestration/Transparency bill into law. It cleared the House 414-2 and the Senate by unanimous consent.

Thus what Obama is now demanding is that Congress not hold the middle class "hostage" to the bills he signed into law.

The only way to save the Middle Class is to make them feel the pain of useless spending. The worst thing would be a tax hike on the rich only because it would further distort our tax base toward the top 1%. There would be no pressure to reduce spending — about a third to half of which is of little to no benefit. If the Middle Class truly wants a huge Welfare State (and from the looks of the last election, they may), then they should grow up and pay for it by accepting a huge Middle Class tax hike.

I was traveling on Sunday and was under a CNN Candy C interview with Tim Tax cheat G. This is Chicago methods, this socialist ways. Send your people out to do the dirty work and lie and the dictator will only allow interviews he selects, but will only be seen in a campaign style environment. Its propaganda 101. The sad thing is that the GOPe is going to let it happen. I guess they still didn’t get that memo on November 6th! Bonner will fold and so with Mitch.

If the Republicans can’t beat the Democrats, then they may a well join them...

Tax those making over $100,000 at 98%
Increase unemployment benefits to 99 months
Double unemployment benefits
Increase the minimum wage to $25 per hour

If the Liberals want to overload the system, I think the Republicans should help.

ps: everything he does is true to form....ever since the Communist Manifesto first laid it out.
A strong, vibrant middle class is basically independent of a centralized, authoritarian government

destroy the average citizen’s chance, opportunities to move into so-called “middle class” or “bourgeois” positions in society, whether that means good jobs or small businesses of their own,
and then a centralized authoritarian government can REALLY take over.
(and control the entire country by the simple means of being the people’s only available access to food and other necessities of life)

everything O’Hussein has been doing, and is proposing now, fits this very well-known pattern.
Ask Karl Marx (or just read him at your local library)

It is hard to know what is right for the GOP to do. They are damned if they do and damned if they don't. And, it is the GOP’s fault. They have played softball for too long and fallen into the Obama/dem’s trap.

If the Bush tax cuts for the middle class expire then the GOP will get the blame. The Tax cut’s will be renewed but then will be known as the Obama tax cuts for the middle class and he will get the credit and they could lose seats in 2014.

Obama is pushing the division of this country and shamelessly campaigning for his agenda and the 51% are eating it up.

I could be wrong and time will tell.

I agree and the best way to do it would be to eliminate the local and state tax and mortgage exemptions from the federal income tax code. Then we’ll see how much the blue staters like big government.

I am of the mind that since all spending has to originate in the House the republicans should just put their plan in writing, pass the bill through the House and make the Dems vote it down. Then they can go out and show America that they are putting forth the effort, attempted to pass a bill that kept taxes low for all Americans. It also gives them something concrete to bargin from and sell to the people. The Republicans are being far too passive in this whole process, they continue to react and even encourage the Dems to make the first move. To win anything they have to get the Dems to start reacting to them!

Have you ever seen a 2000lb. bull tied to a donkey by the bullring? Serious question. The bull is the mindset of the American people. The ring is the media and we all know who the donkey is.
