The Ungrateful President
NY Times Op-Ed ^ | 8-7-2012 | MoDo

Posted on 08/08/2012 7:48:56 AM PDT by Sir Napsalot

.... Stories abound of big donors who stopped giving as much or working as hard because Obama never reached out, either with a Clinton-esque warm bath of attention or Romney-esque weekend love fests and Israeli-style jaunts; of celebrities who gave concerts for his campaigns and never received thank-you notes or even his full attention during the performance; of public servants upset because they knocked themselves out at the president’s request and never got a pat on the back; of V.I.P.’s disappointed to get pictures of themselves with the president with the customary signature withheld; of politicians disaffected by the president’s penchant for not letting members of Congress or local pols stand on stage with him when he’s speaking in their state (they often watch from the audience and sometimes have to lobby just to get a shout-out); of power brokers, local and national, who felt that the president insulted them by never seeking their advice or asking them to come to the White House or ride along in the limo for a schmooze.

....

“He comes from the neediest profession of all, except for acting, but he is not needy and he doesn’t fully understand the neediness of others; it’s an abstraction to him,” says Jonathan Alter, who wrote “The Promise” ..... “He’s not an ungracious person, but he can be guilty of ingratitude. ....”

....

David Maraniss, author of “Barack Obama: The Story,”

“He realized that he could stir crowds while also thinking to himself that it was all a game and posturing,” the biographer said. “He is always removed and participating at the same time, self-conscious and without the visceral need or love of transactional politics that would characterize Bill Clinton or L.B.J. or even W., in a way.”

I was just reading, in the WTC fire story (NBD it's out), buried at the end was a story about how Bobo signed a pillar beam to go at the top of the new 1 WTC. And the sentence afterwards should have been, "And failed to rightfully invite Pres. Bush to sign as well."

I mean, think of how much something as simple as that would have gone towards re-election, a joint signing ceremony, handshake, etc.

Instead he's still running against Bush four years later and boy is Bobo gonna lose so badly...

Obama and Moochelle are most certainly the most ungrateful and ungracious people ever to occupy the White House. But, keep in mind that they come from a race of people who predominantly live their lives screeching “You owe me!” and never, ever bother to acknowledge the trillions of dollars funneled their way ever since the Great Society made “entitlements” part of the lexicon.

Before anyone screams “racist,” please note that I said “predominantly.”

“O” is ‘detached’ and he's detached in a way and to an extent that ONLY an person born OUTSIDE the US can be.

He ain't American. Not one bit!

And this is in addition to his other and I think equally dangerous flaws.

the president’s penchant for not letting members of Congress or local pols stand on stage with him when he’s speaking in their state (they often watch from the audience and sometimes have to lobby just to get a shout-out)

WOW.

What a damning criticism of the Bamster's insecurity, and in the New York Times no less!!

A barf alert is missing. How can so pro-Obama readers of this article be so pretentiously stupid?

“Maureen Dowd” AND “NY Times Op-Ed” is a twofer, barf tag is redundant.

At least MoDo spilled the beans (a bit). Maybe "Dear Barack" didn't mention her by name at the fundraiser, who knows.

I’d love to see Zero get beat in all 57 states /s but he’s got the “Free Stuff” 43%ers in the bag.

I spoke to a acquaintance the other day that actually admitted she voted for the Idiot and said she will again. Cause Mittens got rich “working” and there are alot of people in this country that need help from the Government.

I about puked then realized she hadn’t worked a full day in her 55+ plus years on this planet.

I didn’t even try to convince her she was wrong on so many levels cuase you can’t reason with Stupid. BTW she in living off an inheritance. I wanted to ask her what she would do when Zero confiscated that, but I know the real answer is go on welfare.

“Obama wants to be a policy maker, not a glad-handing pol.”

Yup, just like Lenin, Robespierre, Mao, Pol Pot, the list goes on. I could mention a short Austrian guy with a moustache, but that is verboten.

As for the ingratitude, all those idiot lib donors can just get in the thankless line - the one with Oprah in front.

What's being nicely described here is a sociopath. Total self absorption and an innate inability to empathize with others at all. Nothing matters except to the extent it relates to him.

In a backhanded way, she's blaming his short-armed donors for being needy. If he doesn't give their egos symbolic reach-arounds, they stop giving him money.

It never even occurs to MoDo that maybe his political contributions are lagging because his presidency has been a complete and utter disaster from day one.

Holy cow. Why oh why do I share the same planet with these people? And notice the Times even highlighted her post as exceptional!

Elizabeth Robben, Houston - NYT Pick
Obama is the Carey Grant of Presidents, a Super-man whose actions and appearance seem almost effortless perfect-while he still manages to juggles the worst set of problems in modern American history. The fact that he is admirably uncomfortable pandering as Celebrity in Chief behind the scenes shows he has a core sense of himself that Romney the Robot will never possess.
The president may need to develop more awareness of his affect on others, but overall, his unwillingness to sell his soul is a testament to character in an age where narcissism is rewarded and character is all but ignored. He knows he has to live with his real self and that we don't. And us mere mortals can't even begin to imagine what it's like being him.

A sociopath is bad enough. Watch out for a sociopath with power.

Just wait till said sociopath FEELS he's not being appreciated enough for his efforts.

No more HUGE cheering fainting crowd, no more praising of his oratory skills to wooing his followers, criticism by every one for each move/decision he makes.....

I think the NYT’s Satire meter was turned off when they highlighted that comment.

It is satire.

Obama - UNGRATEFUL?

Who’da thunk it? Actually not so surprising, since even as a child, he was given no pattern in his life of reward for effort. The rewards fall as gentle rain, the punishments (if any) are random and relatively rare.

So, what’ve you done for HIM lately? If it was more than twenty minutes ago, whatever thanks were due, if he did not deliver his gratitude immediately, are already slipped away from his memory.

Of course, any favor Obama may have bestowed upon another, in all his gracious goodness, is an IOU he can come back and call upon any time he wants. Never to be canceled, regardless of whatever inequities may be visited upon the onetime recipient of these favors by those who speak in the name of Obama.

Not that Obama would set himself up to be a Messiah or anything.

I’m with you. I know a couple who are both close to 100% disabled (MS and RA) and they are fervent BO supporters. Apparently, they have not read the obamacare bill. Being in their 60’s AND disbled, they are of no use to the State. They will be first in line to get the pain pill instead of medical care and are completely oblivious to that FACT.

I don’t even engage them. That would be five minutes of my life I would never get back. While I do love them, there are times I don’t like them.

MoDo forgot:

; of over-the-hill, past-their-spoil-date, kneepad-wearing-floozies who are always writing air-headed, drooling, adoring love notes about him in leftist newspapers, but never get a shout-out, or a limo ride, or any other form of recognition for being his female lap dogs.

I read it again, and I'm still missing any indicator that it is sarcasm.

The only reason you could consider it sarcasm is that it's so comically fawning and adoring.

I think there are millions out there who bow down before this boob president, and I think the writer of that comment is one of them.

I know a girl who cried real tears because I made fun of the Kennedy family. These goofballs exist.

Interesting. Reminds me of a certain kind of narcisstic personality that was described by Heinz Kohut, an Austrian psychologist.

I am not a psychologist, and haven't read Kohut for years; but what I think I remember is his description of two kinds of narcissists --the messianic and the charismatic types.

At least one of these types was likely to have grown up without a father in the family.

Maybe there are FReeper psychologists out there who could elaborate on this?
