The only way you can be sure to have access to your own money is to keep access to your own money.

Once you have put it in someone else’s hands, you run the risk that they can’t give it back. After all, they aren’t burying it in their back yards — you could do that yourself.

Believe it or not, there was a time in the not too distant past, when you could put your money in the bank with no worries and earn very respectable interest on your money.

With today's rates, it might as well be buried in your backyard; it's safer there.

And for official money, even that won't work - if the government wants to regain control of the "under the mattress" cash, all it has to do is invalidate current cash and issue something else - in order to "get your money" you need to put it in a government approved vehicle.
