When an incumbent is on the ballot, the election is about the incumbent. If you do not vote for Romney, you are voting for Obama. I dispute your rule, but let's accept it for the moment. Was it true, then, that in 2008 refusing to vote for McCain was *not* a vote for Obama, since he was not an incumbent?

I agree the collapse had a lot to do with it. However, once McCain't was the frontrunner and the nominee, he ran a spit warm campaign altogether. He failed to go after 0's connections to terrorists. he failed to go after the eligibility issue. He failed to effectively demonstrate 0 was inexperienced enough for the job.
His bogus suspense of the campaign until the 'crisis was resolved' was absolutely f'n stupid and was a major catalyst that allowed the dems to package the collapse as the fault of republicans.
He shut down his running mate so he wouldn't have to worry about being shown up.....I called that not long after the VP announcement and well before Palin ever wrote her book.
A good deal of romney's staff went to work for McCain't and when things didn't look like it was going there way, they looked for a scapegoat and blamed everyone but the leftists that put the economic policies in place. The side bennie was romney didn't have to worry about running against Palin in 2016.
Instead of picking viable candidates, the GOP looks to see whose turn it is too be the nominee. Well, it's my turn to tell the GOP to FO.

Obama insulted every American with his commentary about starting a business ~ Romney said only that it insulted businessmen.
Neither one of these pukes give a tinkers dam about America or American people.

Is it also true that Any Vote That Isnt For Obama Is Effectively A Vote For Romney? If not, why the difference? Your question is too confusing to log cabin republicans. Can you please just post a picture of obie as Super Devil and mitt as John Galt in a mankini instead?

These folks so concerned about how other Freepers vote probably would be miles ahead if they STOPPED KNOWN BHO voters from showing up to vote for BHO.
There are ways ~ you know what to do.

Very nice.
I am going to remember that, “don’t rag on me, get a BHO supporter to not support him”.
(Would they count that as vote for the Republican?)

FReepers,
Those of you who choose to "sit it out", vote 3rd party or write-in, or just not cast a vote for the top of the Republican ticket for any reason ... THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Never expect an intelligent answer from anyone stupid enough to openly support a liberal for elected office.
A vote for Romney is an admission on the part of the voter that conservatism has failed and thus they are backing the strong (liberal) horse. Just so they can claim victory. It does not occur to them that the ‘America’ “saved” and in turn created by their Romney vote is not America in any accepted sense of the term. It is a liberal playland where abortion is free, gays have more rights than you do and Christianity takes a back seat to third world and cult ‘religions’.
That’s the ‘logic’ you are dealing with.
