The Barack Obama re-election campaign is doing fine

(Just thought the above was worth mentioning.)

As for President Obama's comment today in his morning press conference that the private sector is doing fine, I'd also like to mention that despite how it's being reported, he did not actually correct it in his second press conference. He instead changed the key word, asserting that it's absolutely clear the economy is not doing fine.

His remark must indeed be revealing to those who might not yet have picked up on the fundamental way in which he looks at these issues. The truth is that he's never been concerned about the private sector, and this explains the way in which he has governed. He came into office with the expectation that whatever was wrong with the private sector i.e. with those dependent upon capitalism for their livelihoods would inevitably fix itself after a little while. That's just what capitalists do in Obama's view: they keep right on making money no matter what, not caring who they crush in the meanwhile. His interest was primarily in not letting a crisis go to waste, in Rahm Emanuel's famous phrase.

To put a grand effort into actually doing what could be done to encourage private sector job growth would be to waste the crisis. Instead, President Obama allowed Nancy Pelosi and her fellow congressional Democrats to fashion a monstrosity of a nearly trillion-dollar stimulus bill that largely funneled federal money to local governments, to retain or hire public employees (and often unionized, Democratic-party-supporting ones at that).

Thus washing his hands of the recession, Barack Obama proceeded to pursue his chosen transformational and historic agenda, centered around his massive health care bill. All the time, he simply believed that the private sector would come roaring back of its own volition, and that he would then take credit for the recovery. There was total confidence in this, and the whole Obama administration toed the line on it. Remember Recovery Summer ?

President Obama's comment today was sincere. Watch the video and this is absolutely beyond debate. Despite whatever qualified qualifiers he tried to issue hours later, he genuinely believes that the private sector is doing fine. Since taking office in 2009 he has moved in his perspective on these things not one millimeter. His idea of tackling unemployment begins and ends with hiring more government workers, whether these be federal, state or city. Preferably, they should have generous benefit packages and pension plans, and be members of public sector unions, with their automatically-deducted dues being utilized by those same unions to support the political campaigns of Democrats.

It's not that complicated. It is logical in its limited way and it is certainly circular. There is no way of changing President Obama's point of view on this. The only thing that can be changed is Barack Obama's status of employment in his own public sector job.

Obama revealed himself today. It is possible, this time, it is in a manner so obvious that it will actually get through to every middle-of-the-road voter that counts.

And Bubba is getting his coup-sters ready.

Obama is an amateur and Bubba has had 3.5 years to develop a response.

Hang on Hill...we're just getting started!

That’s an excellent point! When he doesn’t give a crap about something he always says it’s doing just fine. What he’s really saying is: “who cares about that?”...

Summary of the two speeches. “We gotta raise taxes on the ‘rich’ to pay for some more good government jobs.”

I enjoyed it as much as anyone, but unless the Republicans pursue it & make it so, it is not the defining moment in the campaign. It only has the potential to be it.
