The biography provided by Barack Obama to his literary agent specified his birthplace as "Kenya". And, over the course of 17 years, despite multiple revisions by Obama, the Kenyan birthplace remained a fundamental part of the bio on the agent's website.
Was Barack actually born in Kenya? I seriously doubt it, even though Michelle Obama has publicly stated that Kenya is her husband's "home country". Contemporary newspaper listings in Honolulu, for example, list the time and place of his birth. While this isn't ironclad proof, to be sure, it's good enough for me.
No, my suspicion is that Mr. Obama manipulated his birthplace intentionally (and cynically) to take advantage of certain benefits unavailable to those born in the United States.
Bookworm Room describes why that might have been. We need to set the Wayback Machine to 1978, when young Obama was seeking admission to college.
1978 isn’t just any year. It’s a very special year. It was the year that the Supreme Court decided Regents of the University of California v. Bakke (1978) 438 U.S. 265... [and] held that [the] race-based admission process was unconstitutional.
With that decision, Obama, who was a self-confessed slacker in high school, suddenly lost his e-ticket to a good college. He couldn’t know then (nor would it have mattered) that the various concurrences in this deeply divided opinion would eventually open the door to colleges and universities making race a “factor” in admission, so much so that this “factor-ness” eventually created a whole new quota system.
My best guess is that, denied an opportunity to use quota systems to parlay a lousy academic record into a quality college admission, Obama searched around for other means of bypassing his academic failings. It was this search that led him to announce that he was Kenyan. I’m sure that a certain amount of digging will reveal that, just when the Bakke decision came down, American universities were engaged in some sort of pro-active policy involving increasing the number of African nationals on America’s college campuses. Obama was happy to oblige the universities in this effort by co-opting his father’s nationality, and burying the fact that he was a garden-variety American black kid.
There’s the nexus — In 1978, Obama, who already then was willing to lie to achieve his goals, created a false identity to deal with the changes the Bakke decision wrought on college admissions.
This appears to be an extremely plausible explanation for Obama's refusal to release any of his college transcripts.
My guess is that this scenario -- or one similar to it -- helps explain why Obama enjoys the company of race-hustlers like Al Sharpton.
And where was the media for lo these many years? Busy investigating Sarah Palin's elementary school chums?
I follow this pretty closely, but I've never seen anything that convinces me that the original microfilms were all replaced. That no one has recently seen an original copy or the newspaper is no surprise at all. Newspapers are rarely retained by anyone.

Honest, am not picking on you ... I know better. Simply asking some unanswerable questions. Actually am not expecting an answer. Answers are few and far between for the situation America finds herself in (imho). The one thing which bothers me most is those who could ask the questions will not ask even the simplest of questions to make discovery of who is Obama.
BTW, when I say something like this I try to provide a link to the "research."

Barack Obama listed his birthplace as kenya because that is where he wsa born. Only when he saw that maybe he could run for president that he changed that. If not, let him show that he was born here. He cannot!
I agree. I've never bought the "born in Kenya" conspiracy. Barack Sr.'s presence at Harvard is pretty-well documented so the notion that a pregnant teenage American girl would make an expensive and arduous journey by herself to a 3rd World African country she's never been to before specifically to have a baby in the presence of strangers (and her philandering husband's other wife) and then engage in a conspiracy to fabricate this baby's American birth has always been too far-fetched for me to accept.
Barack Obama was born in Hawaii, USA. This I believe to be true. However, these revelations lead me to believe that at some point in his adult life, Obama decided he didn't want his birthplace to be the vacation paradise of Hawaii, son of a teenage mother and an exchange student. He needed to be the child of volatile, post-colonial Kenya, son of an American anthropologist and a Kenyan finance minister. Was this done to gain admission to college? I don't know. At the very least, I believe this fabricated narrative gave him some measure of "street cred" amongst the lefty academics he was trying to impress.
It's funny. So many have been accusing Obama of lying when he said he was born in Hawaii. As it turns out, the conver-up has been that he was lying when he was telling people he was born in Kenya!
If that is true then he is a Liar and needs to be impeached as he is a fraud and needs to be disqualified. Lying at all costs is not an American trait.

The birth announcement in the paper is meaningless. Remember it was 1961 Hawaii. At home births were common if not the rule. To get a birth announcement in the paper all you had to do was call them and say, “Hi, I/my wife/sister/girlfriend/daughter/etc. just had a baby boy on Tuesday and we’d like it announced in the paper”. Hell Barry’s Commie Baby Momma could have done it herself from Canada.
Barry had all those documents for Indonesia, we’re talking about an era when such paperwork was three-decades less developed, and colleges often admit students from exotic countries with lesser qualifications just so they can expand the number of nations they can boast their student body to represent.
You don’t fault Obama for lying about his birthplace to get into college? (And wasn’t he supposedly a British subject at birth anyway?)

Just more stretching of the obvious fact that he was not born here and has lied to get into office! The truth hurts and it is simple to forge doc’s to show he was born in Hawaii and to contact a local paper if you are the parents to make it look that way after you have immigrated here. Daahhhh.
No original birth certificate and facts that show the one shown is indeed a forgery. Daaahhhh!

He worked there for "little more than year." As a research associate in its financial services division, he edited Financing Foreign Operations, a global reference service, and wrote for Business International Money Report, a weekly financial newsletter. His responsibilities included "interviewing business experts, researching trends in foreign exchange, following market developments. . . . He wrote about currency swaps and leverage leases. . . . Obama also helped write financial reports on Mexico and Brazil.
It is also known that Business International Corporation was a front company for the CIA.
Most of us agree he used his Kenyan citizenship to game the system or he may have claimed being Indonesian.
I’ve gone through several pages of her postings and see no such proof. Wouldn’t surprise me if it were true, mind you, but I’ve yet to see such proof. I have seen her reference those newspaper postings as including births in other years and from other places, however.
