I need some help for my nine year-old nephew diagnosed with an aggressive cancer.

My nine year-old nephew has been diagnosed with Adrenocortical carcinoma. My sister lives near Madison, Wisconsin, and is seeing a doctor there for him. He is on mitotane and probably some other drugs I'm not aware of.

Apparently the prognosis is not good, like a one-in-five chance of making it through five years. A friend of mine mentioned the Children's Hospital in Philadelphia; apparently one of the best pediatric cancer specialists works there.

My sister is doing everything, and I mean everything. Supplements, massage, Reiki therapy, in addition to everything the doctors recommend. She also has him enrolled in clinical trials.

Now, I learned today that the doctors have made three massive mistakes--mistakenly diagnosing him when he was a toddler (and had pubic hair, muscles, and was beating up his older brother). In 2005 my sister and her husband were told they had tested him for Cushing's disease (?), or some other disease, when they had not. Then the doctors took an ex-ray in 2010 and missed the tumor (the size of a cantaloupe when they took it out a month ago; it's now metatasized into his lungs, although the last round of chemo seems to have shrunk the nodules a bit.

They're going to continue chemo, etc., as long as progress is made, otherwise; they're going to let him enjoy what time he has with his friends and family.

As a trained lawyer, I am sorry, but these mistakes over the years are lawsuit material. However, that is for another day. Not now. Now, the goal is to make him one of the 20% who live.

I know there so many Freepers who are smart and educated and I'm hoping there are some doctors or researchers, people out there who understand this.

I live in another country and am extremely emotional about this; it's affecting my work and sleep, although that is not important.

When I called my dad to say goodnight tonight (he lives right next door to them), I suddenly thought: Free Republic! I must ask for their advice!

In any case, if anyone has any advice or knowledge about this, I would really appreciate hearing from you.

I'm about to commit one of the cardinal sins of FR, posting and kind of running. It's really late here and I have to go to work, but I know I won't have time tomorrow. I'll stay up for another half hour or so and then check in tomorrow.

In any case, I would appreciate your prayers.

I have not tried this, but there is a product online called carnivora. also on coast to coast AM there is an Italian doctor that claims all cancer comes from fungus and can be cured with baking soda?

something to read about the carnivora is from the venus fly trap plant and is supposed to wake up white cells to destroy diseases.

Okay, I’m beat. I wanted to keep up with everyone’s expressions of support, but I can’t anymore. I hope I didn’t miss anyone. Thank you again. You all are true heroes and FRiends, that is for sure.

I will respond tomorrow. I know that there is a lot of positive energy, thanks to all of you, that is flowing towards James’ way. :) God Bless you all.

Try Dr Thomas Cowan, San Francisco. He knows both AMA and eastern medical methods, and has some well informed ideas about how to get to the cause. God bless!

The Needak Rebounder helps the body heal in many different ways.

The beginning of this article discusses the experience of a cancer patient with the device.

Remember that a few alternative treatments may be beneficial, most do nothing one way or another, and some are downright harmful. And that patients are in a poor position to tell which is which. And that there is no shortage of charlatans and quacks who will loot every penny they can from desperate parents, typically amidst pious denunciations of the greed of the traditional medical establishment.

Prayers for your Nephew and Family.

I have been through Chemo Regimen treatments twice in the last seven years, and I can only imagine how I would have dealt with it at the age of nine. Your Nephew must be a brave little soldier.

It looks like our fellow FReepers have answered your call for information. I am in Southern California and we have Cedars Sinai (where I had a consultation after my Leukemia Diagnosis), and City of Hope that are doing wonderful things in Cancer Treatment.

Friends in Texas have spoken very highly of M.D. Anderson in Houston (mdanderson.org) and I think FReeper Jeff Head had his aggressive Cancer successfully treated there.

My best wishes and please know that the little guy will have a whole lot of people here pulling for him.
Miracles do happen.
God Bless.

I was also going to recommend Cancer Treatment Centers of America. There are several locations around the country. I have a friend who had what the local doctors termed an inoperable brain tumor several years ago. She went to the facility in Oklahoma and has now been in remission for several years. She is also a very strong Christian and we all believe that the Lord had a major part in her healing. She is absolutely a walking miracle! St. Jude's is also a wonderful facility for children.

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I will ask and pray for the intercession of Blessed Josemaria Escriva and Bishop Fulton Sheen.

On December 20, 2001, Pope John Paul II approved the decree issued by the Congregation for the Causes of Saints on a miraculous cure attributed to the intercession of Blessed Josemaria Escriva. The miracle was the cure of Dr. Manuel Nevado from cancerous chronic radiodermatitis, an incurable disease, which took place in November 1992. The decree opened the doors for the canonization of Blessed Josemaria.

I went to my files, and came across some info from the past.
This is info mostly regarding eating, and taking supplements while at home.

Once diagnosed with cancer:

Stop eating stuff with sugar.
I know - James is 9 - - -
Cancer loves sugar.

Drink good water all day - ‘they’ used to say distilled, but may have dropped that.
Helps rid the body of toxins as the body adapts to a changed dietery regimen.

Drink good organic green tea, multiple cups if possible.
Drink Essiac Tea, or Flora ‘Florescence’
Any amounts one can ingest.

Stop eating processed food and eat fresh, ‘real’ food! Absolutely organic, if possible.
Takes more for the body to digest processed food.

Eat 5 (adults 10) almonds daily - raw almonds if possible.

And there’s the time-honored juicing.
Some of the supplements I mention here later could be put in the juice, easier than swallowing.
If drinking juice 3 times daily, the supplements can be spread out.

Important - take a good digestive enzyme after every meal. Preferably a proteolytic one.
One doctor, who practiced alternatives also, said adults, anyway, with cancer should take a digestive enzyme every time they pass the bottle! Assists the body in important digestive job.

If there’s weight loss, investigate hydrazine sulfate.

In general, investigate MGN-3, IP6, Alpha lipoic acid, Germanium, MSM, Olive Leaf extract, Grape seed extract, Flaxseed oil. . .
There could be updates in supplements/foods in the cancer realm since garnering the above information a while ago.
The idea is to nourish the body and immune system so it can fight off the cancer.

Start reading!
Previously I mentioned Dr. Ralph Moss. He has reports on traditional and alternative cancer therapies.

Dr. Joseph Mercola - look him up on the internet.
Dr. Julian Whitaker, Dr. Blaylock - good guys for info.

Read about Dr. Bryzynski (sp?!)and his therapy.

Dr. Bruce West
Dr. David Williams
Dr. Jonathan Wright
Get information from them.
We subscribe to their newsletters (and Whitaker’s) and have for years.

The all-around nutritional ‘bible,’ is ‘Prescription For Nutritional Healing’ by James F. Balch, MD.

Someone mentioned Suzanne Somers’ book. Have not read it, but understand it’s terrific. . .

A lot to take in at once . . .
Consider one or 2 things at a time. Perhaps have a timetable written out for adding things.
Maybe James would like to be in on the prep.

Lots of prayers now, for James and his family.

Prayers to all of you. I understand the despairation. My son died 1992 of cancer 2 years old. Believe it or not but most cancer diagnosed in children is by accident.

Anyway I have seen amazing miracles happen. If they are going to try alternatives as well as conventional treatments they need to make sure it does not counteract the chemotherapy.

Agreed. This is something near and dear to my heart.

I’m a GP who “specialises” in managing people with coronary artery disease, so cancer isn’t my thing, but anyone in the position described here needs to be aware of the things desperation can do to the judgement of otherwise rational people.

There is no such thing as “alternative” medicine. There is evidence based medicine and non-evidence based medicine (the gold standard for evidence being the double blind trial). Most “alternative” therapies are marketed as such because they otherwise fall into the latter category. This, along with a liberal helping of demonization of the “medical establishment” - which exists as a discrete entity only in the minds of medical kooks - completes the tom-foolery.

No one is saying that supplements and diets aren’t good for you.

Black tea, for example, has been shown to have beneficial effects on cornonary micro-circulation.. but you’d be a fool to rely on chugging black tea and tea extracts in place of real medicine if you’re fresh off the cath lab table with freshly reopened arteries and a stent or three.

Radical diet intervention (Ornish type diets) have been shown in clinical trials to reverse the formation of plaques in arteries.. but they regress even faster when the fish oil supplements and ultra-low fat diet is combined with statins, beta blockers and other traditional drug therapies.

Anyway.. prayers for the kid and his parents. Its always an awful shock when an otherwise healthy young person is diagnosed with a potentially fatal illness!
