Alarmed by widespread reports of visibly sick, deformed seafood coming out of the Gulf of Mexico, state officials have closed area waters to shrimping this morning (April 23). The waters will be closed indefinitely as scientists run tests in an effort to get a handle on a situation that is fast becoming a full-blown crisis on the Gulf Coast.
The closures including all waters in the Mississippi Sound, Mobile Bay, areas of Bon Secour, Wolf Bay and Little Lagoon mark the first official step in responding to increasingly urgent reports from fishermen and scientists of grotesquely disfigured seafood from Louisiana to the Florida panhandle.

I call BS.
Shrimp without eyes ...
Sounds like Democrats to me.
"The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has temporarily closed some local waterways to shrimping [...] in the Mississippi Sound, Mobile Bay, areas of Bon Secour, Wolf Bay, and Little Lagoon.
The closure is in response to routine shrimp sampling that indicated the average size were smaller than 68 head-on shrimp per pound. [...]
And wed like to clarify that the closures were not due to lesions being found on shrimp as we reported earlier this weekend and Monday morning.
Didn't Mobile Bay turn into an enormous sea transport hub almost overnight in WWII?
Shrimps with 68 heads - WOW!
I’m not surprised in the least.
But were they virgins??
You posted from an Enviro-alarmist site that, if you read the link, doesn’t prove that anything is related to the Deepwater oil spill - or even that anything is actually occurring.
My family own around 5,000 acres down in the gulf and we’ve been crabbing and fishing there for close to 80+ years. A crab without claws and some fugly shrimp are nothing new — and certainly nothing new since that oil spill — the oil spill that is completely gone now, by the way.
You enviro-nuts are responsible for over-hyping the oil spill and bankrupting A LOT of good, honest fishermen for no reason. Shameful.
And what are you posting this junk science on FR for anyway?
[...] “fishermen and scientists have found horrifying creatures in the Gulf of Mexico including blue crabs without claws, shrimp without eyes and fish with lesions.” [...]
“And its not just deformities that has researchers worried. Its also the drastic decline in sea life populations, and that declines impact on the food chain.”
“And its not just the shrimp. Commercial fishermen are reporting red snapper and grouper riddled with deep lesions and covered with strange black streaks. Highly underdeveloped blue crabs are being pulled up in traps without eyes and claws ”
This is what we’re doing to God’s beautiful Creation. And instead of feeling sad about it, we’re proud of it. God should just wipe us off the planet.
Clean energy is a myth, we make a few sacrifices and nature quickly or slowly cleans things up.
If you feel that strongly about it, you should start with yourself and set an example for the rest of us. That should certainly make the world a better place and increase the average IQ.

the oil spill that is completely gone now, by the way.
Uh, huh. You just keep on believing what the obama govt. tells you.
What a total bunch of crap.
I smell the Kenyan bastard’s friends behind this for reasons yet to be known. Maybe it is directed towards the oil industry to make them look evil.
But thats okay. Those wonderful foot-long shrimps are moving in.
Yummy!!!
Of course we care. But the fact that accidents happen can’t stop every activity, including oil-drilling.
50% of the oil in the ocean occurs naturally. It seeps out just as it does at various spots on the earth’s surface. Nothing we can do to stop it.
We have taken great pains to ameliorate such risks & will continue to do so.
Read the comments at the link! We’re all gonna die!
Sounds like the closing was because the shrimp are too small, not because they are grotesquely deformed, as claimed.
I wonder if the shrimp being smaller has anything to do with these footlong cannibal shrimp that are eating the other shrimp. And my question is how we end up with shrimp that are supposed to live halfway across the globe (somewhere in the Orient, I thought) in the Gulf of Mexico instead, where there isn’t the ecosystem to hold them in balance.
I hoped they had started to find shrimp with two tails.
“the oil spill that is completely gone now, by the way.

Yawn. What are you, like, 15 and this is your first foray into enviro-activism?
Hey, I’m game: Like, save the whales, man. Because global cooling is going to kill them all off by 2010. Yep.
The best thing about an environmentalist is that they rarely know anything about the environment that they are preaching to you about.
Sounds like a typical 1950's horror B movie without the radiation.
Manbearpig is on the march!!!
Oh thats just SpongeBob
he always looks like that
WE DIDN’T LISTEN!
You mean you call denial.
Didn’t you read the article regarding 400 lbs of eyeless shrimp?
Go dump some Mean Green in your aquarium and see what it does to your fish. Corexit is the same ingredient base as Mean Green.
Like the Starbucks lady?
“God should just wipe us off the planet.”
Sarcasm, right? You forgot the tag... </s>
Some people are out of sight, out of mind. They can’t SEE the oil settled on the bottom of the ocean, so wala! It’s GONE!
Does anyone use Dawn liquid? If you use it to wash greasy dishes and leave the water for a few hours, then drain it. Rub the bottom of your sink to find your finger will pick up a layer of grease that has settled to the bottom.
Corexit is a DEGREASER. The oil doesn’t just disappear, it SINKS. If it had been left alone, bacteria would have taken care of it.
It’s not the oil that was the problem, it was the Corexit that was used to FOOL people into not SEEING it.

Do you believe that God loves this planet more than the souls whom He created in His own image?
Genesis 1:26 "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth."
Just in case, IBTZ.
Scientists have found that rocks beneath the seafloor are teeming with microbial life.
A couple years back I found a DNR officer collecting ooze in a swamp near here. He was collecting the ooze for some study on the oil eating bacteria that thrive there due to the oil that seeps out of the ground.

LOL I can’t take my meds cause God will strike me down for polluting my body. (It is a temple BTW)
this has been posted several times.
Well, people mindlessly eat GMO vegetables, and corn fed, drugged up beef, pork and poultry. What’s a little deformed fish, right?
“I smell the Kenyan bastards friends behind this for reasons yet to be known.”
The reason is very easy to see: He didn’t carry any of the Gulf-Coast states in the election. “Retribution” is written all over this one.
“This is what were doing to Gods beautiful Creation. And instead of feeling sad about it, were proud of it. God should just wipe us off the planet.”
Oh, WE aren’t a part of and the very purpose of “God’s beautiful creation”. Very revealing comment.
“wala”
I’m going to assume that you mean “voila”, which is a French word. Further, I am going to have to assume that you never finished school to the point where foreign language was required, which would have started in freshman year of high school, junior high school, or, these days, in the last year of “middle school”. :-)

“Corexit is a DEGREASER. The oil doesnt just disappear, it SINKS. If it had been left alone, bacteria would have taken care of it.

Once you wipe your sink clean of the greasy film, and let the hot water carry it to the septic tank, the bacteria will digest the “mess”.

God should just wipe us off the planet.
If you feel that way, why wait?
Bump so I can laugh later at chessplayer and autumnraines’ comments. It’s getting chilly and I have to go throw more logs into the furnace. And FYI you two, the wood doesn’t scream in pain when I throw it in.
Me too. And those no-eyed blind ones should be a lot easier to catch. Yum!
I want my shrimp to taste like Gulf shrimp.
Does Corexit sell a condiment size bottle?
