He would without Newt. Exit polling said in a two man race (Gingrich drops out), the vote would have been 59% - 36%, Paul gets the rest.

With Newt siphoning away some of the conservative vote, Rick`s reaching 49% is rather impressive. He beat pre-primary projections in a big way.
