The best essential oil I have ever used for bruises is wormwood. Hard to get these days and smells awful, but it has taken down hematomas and made bruising absolutely vanish within hours. You need very little and, of course, it is just for topical application. Better than arnica, IMO.

Are you inhaling the arnica and marjoram, applying topically or ingesting them as a infusion? I swear by Yogi Tea’s Kava Stress Tea for a sleep aid. I rarely even finish an 8 oz cup before I need to lie down. Their Joint Comfort Tea(Cat’s Claw and Devil’s Claw) is also effective, exactly as stated on the box. Clary Sage essential oil, used topically, is sedative, but it is really offensive smelling.

I use Tea Tree, but sparingly. It can irritate tissue, especially mucous membranes.

But lavender rules! I just adore it!

Zone 4, but it is really a microclimate (4a) because we are in the bottom of a valley. We have drying westerly winds and can have -35, without windchill, some winters. There is a lot of water on the property, but we can have droughts that are just severe enough to preclude lavender.

I have tried it. Fair as a annual and impossible as a perennial. I am fairly experienced with container gardening and an established lavender plant is one of my present goals. I especially want one of the very fragrant ones with more sweet, flowery notes. Some species tend to a more antiseptic odor.

The problem that I solved with Manuka was a true horror story. It started innocently enough when I banged my shin on the underside of a car door when getting into the car on a rain-slick asphalt surface. It was weeks before it started to get discolored and act inflamed. The problem persisted for a couple of years, with antibiotics not making any difference at all.

I would wake up some mornings to find a big, painful indentation in my leg, with the skin very warm to the touch. Eventually it started to form blisters, which I learned were a sign of gangrene.

Finally, out of desperation I started some online research and stumbled into some info about Manuka honey. I ordered a small jar from a vendor in New Zealand and applied a poultice religiously for about a week.

Shortly thereafter it cleared up completely, and after about a year normal color returned to my leg. One of the most amazing experiences I've had.

Arnica is topically applied. Marjoram I inhale, or add a few drops to a hot bath.

Tried wormwood, but it gives me a rash. Wife loves it and swears by it though! Lavender is certainly king of the oils. Antiseptic, anti odor, anti bacterial and relaxing.

While doing yard work, my husband stepped on a rusty nail earlier tonight. He's at the ER getting a tetanus shot.

Keep tetanus shots updated!!

I liked the idea of having herbs on hand. Food can be pretty boring without them

Add some medicinal herbs and learn how to use them. Even if you don't use them now, they'll be there when/if there comes a time. Also, herbs for teas. I drew out an herb garden yesterday but it's on the back burner for now.

I’ve heard that if you eat yogurt with live cultures or take acidophilus regularly you won’t get a stomach flu. Don’t know if that’s true but it makes sense.

Thanks. It wasn’t stomach flu. It was plain old, break your bones, cough your lungs up, feverish, feel like you are dieing, flu. lol

I’ll get that info at our next meeting, about 2 weeks from now.

Kart, thanks for doing a weekly prepper's thread. I hope you keep it up.

I have a few things to share.

I recommend preppers attend an Appleseed shoot. A full day of excellent training for about $50, and kids, ladies, and seniors are free except the processing fee (like $2).

Ammunition prices are pretty low right now. I recommend you stock up in calibers you use, as well as common ones like .223.

If you haven't heard The Survival Podcast yet, you are missing out. I am a 4-year listener. Jack Spirko, the host, was just interviewed by Glenn Beck on GBTV last Wednesday. This guy has great information, and has good guests on regularly to talk about preparedness.
