FMJBT = full metal jacket boat tail

...forgot the jacket

FMJBT actually describes the bullet seated on the case of the cartridge.

The boat-tail means the butt of the bullet is tapered to reduce wind drag and increase the ballistic coefficient.

Starting my veggie garden this weekend - I'm working on a design to integrate a lot of it among the flower beds and planters so it just looks like inconspicuous landscaping.

Also used up the remaining 2011 FSA on first aid supplies.

This will be our third year gardening. Yes, there much to learn and we’re still learning.

Heck, as warm as it’s been I guess I’ll be tilling up the dirt within the month.

Never thought about the classics. Good point.

Yes, no computers or any type of electronic devices will be of any use. Our books are just that...books, made of paper.

solar chargers will work for quite a while.

Are you talking about panels into deep cycle batteries or smaller units that directly charge rechargeable batteries? If the later, what do you use?

I guess there’d be a bunch of ways to charge your hand-helds.

I have a palm sized solar charger for iPhone/iTouch.
Also, a car charger adapter (your car is a great battery charger).
You could also charge deep cycle batteries with solar panels, hook up the inverter & the “house” device charger, or the car charger directly to one of the 12 volts.

How about some Tamiflu or Premavir (investigational still) in the med kit?
Hope you are on the mend and feeling better!
Thanks for the good work you do FRiend!

I am disturbed at the growing amount of people who use Kindles as their reading source. What happens if there is no electricity?

It's pretty easy to power small devices like that with solar. I'm certainly set up for it, and my Sony reader lasts one month on the charge.

And I have hundreds of books, mainly old google-books that relate to basic skills on it.

I even attempted to convert Kart's preparedness manual into E-pub, but the formatting conversion was a nightmare.

Check your local megamart for holiday special meats.

Most of us know that around Christmas and Thanksgiving you can get turkey cheaply but there are other holidays.

For the two weeks before St Patrick's Day my local stores run a special on corned beef. It is less then half price.

Meat is easy to can when you have a pressure cannier which I strongly suggest you get. I pack the meat into pint jars which is about a pound and pressure can.

They also generally have cabbage at very low prices. Cabbage stores well for a few months if you stuff it into a net bag and hang it. One cabbage per bag. The bags can be washed in bleach water and re-used.

Thanks for the advice Bear. I’ll bring that to the groups attention. We are planning on canning garden produce so I guess meats wouldn’t be any harder.

I quit smoking about a year ago, but we have a member who still smokes.

How do you start the plants? Seeds? How fast does tobacco grow?

Our smoking member is buying bulk tobacco now, but growing is a really good idea.

Thanks.

First time I grew it, I bought seeds off the interwebs.

They start like tomato plants, only the seeds are much, much smaller.

Usually takes 60 days from outside planting (I won't do that until after Easter and the nights are above 55F) to harvest.

Then it has to be cured.

Little bit of knowledge, and a little bit of money, are required. Plenty of info and seeds avail via the internet.

I thought being ‘cured’ was what you needed after you smoked the tobacco? ;-)
