KPUA cancels Rush Limbaugh radio show in Hilo

Hilo, Hawaii March 5, 2012: New West Broadcasting announced today that it is discontinuing the Rush Limbaugh program on KPUA AM 670 in Hilo, Hawaii effective immediately.

Chris Leonard, President and General Manager of New West released the following statement this morning:

“We have always encouraged spirited discussion about national and local issues on KPUA and from time to time those discussions may be deemed by some to be objectionable. We are strong believers in the first amendment and have recognized Mr. Limbaugh's right to express opinions that often times differ from our own, but it has never been our goal to allow our station to be used for personal attacks and intolerance. The most recent incident has crossed a line of decency and a standard that we expect of programming on KPUA whether it is locally produced or a syndicated program like the Rush Limbaugh show. [snip] As a result, we are discontinuing the Rush Limbaugh program on KPUA effective immediately.”

Dear Chris , I work for a major rent a car company here on the Big Island .For years I have been programming your station into each and every rental car I get in during the course of my work day . I have programmed literally 10's of 1000's of such rental cars

Effective immediately I will cease programming your station into any and all cars and I shall further re-visit the programming I have done and remove all pre-sets to your station .

Your discontinuance of Rush was a bad idea . It will have it's own costs

As a radio veteran I can assure you that will get under their liberal skin.

Chances are they are libs and have long wanted to cancel Rush but didn't know how to do it in a way that would not cause an uprising in their audience.

Feigning ire at the names Rush called the Trojan Whorse gives them (they think) the excuse to let the audience down gently, you know, based on "civility" and all that.

However, the time slot will fall like a rock in the ratings without Rush on the air.

I stream Rush down here in Brisbane, Australia off an east coast station. People in HI can do the same; just hook up with a west coast station like KTTH out of Seattle. I think they’d be getting it around 7am.
