Time has come for me to leave the chaos of FreeRepublic.

Over the past 13 years I always felt that FR was the home of Conservatives with core values that could not be compromised. This election cycle has shown me that I have been wrong in my assessment.

The lack of moral or intellectual commitment by many of the FR members has resulted in the end of my involvement.

I'm sure JR and many others are pleased but know that the early years were great experiences.

God Bless to all and enjoy the next 4 years of Obama.

Perry just didn’t catch on. It isn’t our fault and it’s certainly no reason to give up the good fight. I’m in this fight to beat Obama and to crush the liberals. I want to destroy them. I want to make them cry and gnash their teeth. It’s less important to me which tool we use to destroy them. I do think Newt will be an incredibly effective sledge hammer though.

I have not put all my money on any of the candidates because I don't think any are stellar, but I will vote for whoever gets the nod against Obama. That person with a GOP Congress will get much done whoever it is.

You're falling into the same trap as the GOP establishment...letting a few weak links/lurkers make up your mind for you, and frankly...scare you away.

The prime core of conservatism (IMHO) is individualism...if you're looking for "groupthink", you need to go on over to DU and join the lockstep.

There are a lot of fence-sitters and obama lovers around, but if you are secure in your beliefs and committment, you'll stay and fight the good fight.

Personally, I wouldn't trust anyone who agrees with me on everything.

Just because your flawed candidate is losing out to another flawed candidate doesn’t mean that those who support the latter are compromising their principles any more than you did.

Remember that the most common definition for “true conservative” is “the candidate that I back” — the truth is that your “true conservative” is someone else’s “RINO”.

Even if everyone at FR devoted themselves to Perry, he’d still be withdrawing from the race and endorsing Newt today.

There is no way around his inability to communicate. I liked Perry too and hoped he would do well, but it became clear that he simply does not have the communication skills necessary for a national campaign. He may be able to get away with lackluster communications skills in Texas, but not nationally.

Of the remaining options, Newt is the best alternative - and he is the only one who has a chance of denying Romney the nomination. Is he perfect? Heck no. Newt is all kinds of flawed, but he is better than the others and actually has a shot at both winning the nomination and defeating Hussein.

Then turn your attention to organizing for the senate, congress, governor, State house, school board or dog catcher. Hell even here in bluest of the blue Cook Crook County Illinois we have Peter Roskam, one good GOP member of the house. So there is always another fight. Even if we lose the White House (and either Romney or Obama is a loss in my book) every seat in the house and a third of the senate is up for grabs in 2012. Local elections from state senator to school board are up for grabs in 2012.

Even if we lose the big one you don't give up and hide under the bed. You find fights where a conservative can win and you f___ing win them. FR is one of the best places to find those fights. So if your guy dropped out, take a couple of days off. Have a beer or two over the weekend. Then get back in the game Monday because this nation is worth fighting for.
