Ron Paul's "What if China had bases in Texas" ad is dangerously misleading

It is hard to say who, other than our Islamist enemies, benefits from Ron Paul’s slick ad asking, “What if China had bases in Texas?” Paul uses it to promote his delusional view of the world and certainly fools some well-meaning but ill-informed Americans.

Those who don’t want us to fight with our hands tied behind our back are easy prey for the gibberish Paul is selling because this ad blurs the lines between the frustrating manner we have prosecuted the war on terror and the very valid reasons for entering into it to begin with.

Many Americans who understand the appallingly halfhearted way the war in Viet Nam was “fought” have an understandable predisposition toward believing we are fighting a “civil war” or “meddling in the affairs of other countries” when we take proactive measures in fighting our war on terror. Paul knows this and shamelessly plays on it for votes.

Nevertheless, implying there is no difference between Viet Nam and the current war on terror is as addle brained as saying there is no difference between night and day.

Because it was largely true that nothing when North Viet Nam and the Chinese attacked South Viet Nam, would not have brought that war to our shores, does not in any way mean a “live and let live” policy toward the Islamist will insure our safety – just ask the Spanish train bombing victims about that.

Paul’s misguided foreign policy would have us deny the threat of Islam based on the implied notion that we can treat Iran and organized Islamist terror groups as if they are just another group of Nazis speaking a different language.

The Nazis did not want to destroy our way of life; they wanted to take over our way of life. The Islamists...

Doesn’t China (and the Chinese Red Army by extension) own the ports in Los Angeles? I heard Paul refer to himself today as a Libertarian, so why is he a declared Republican?

Then Ron Paul would be declaring Texas a ‘apartheid State’ if we opposed it while going to Chinese media blaming Texas.

China doesn’t have bases in Texas, but Mexico sure does.

They are drug gangs like Sinaloa Cartel and the Los Zetas Cartel.

I see little difference between having China with a base in Texas as Muslims having a base in Dearborn Michigan and the Samalians having a base in Maine.Especially since the Muslims have a friend in the WH.

( Maybe even the Democrats having their base in Washington DC)(OK give me a break I am merely pointing out that we have enemies amongst us already)

Is China any more dangerous to the American way of life than these?

...and along those lines, Paul thinks a border fence is just a Berlin Wall to ‘keep Americans in’.

Where do we have any bases where they are NOT WANTED?

We never invade and take over any country- we always leave when asked.

Most of these places count on us and our bases for their defense.

Let’s ask them if they want us to leave?

China DOES have bases here - just not in Texas.

Oh, they are not manned with the members of the Peoples Liberation Army - yet. But they are accumulating real estate near existing port facilities, and maintain railway sidings and truck docks. Ostensibly, these are for “commercial” purposes, but with the lax oversight of these facilities, the shipments could quickly change to personnel and support equipment to put down “insurrections”.

The colonization of America’s West Coast has begun.

“What if China had bases in Texas?”

If anybody complained, they would be called racist.

If they say no, let them pay for it.

What Paul is saying is that the average American who loves their country is equal to the average uneducated, islamic arab/afghan goat herder who hates America.

That is the vile statement he is making. And this is a man who loves America? lol.

“I heard Paul refer to himself today as a Libertarian, so why is he a declared Republican?”

Libertarians have never polled above 1% in any national election. They pretend to be republican so that people will listen to them. That’s why they invade sites like this claiming to be conservative. The libertarian forum is a very lonely place.

Also, after a big embezzlement scandal in 88, Paul was kicked out of the party and the locks were literally changed on him.

“Libertarians have never polled above 1% in any national election. They pretend to be republican so that people will listen to them.”

When their ilk promotes wackos like Paul, their brand looks even goofier to mainstream America.
