Cartoon: Government fails again, but trust it with health care

Sure we failed, but trust us next time

Exactly. In light of government failure after government failure, why does anyone trust the government to pick the winners and losers — let alone with something as important as health care?

If you're interested in the philosophical case for why government intervention in health care isn't just and won't work, check out The Law by Frederic Bastiat, a French political philosopher. It's available for free online, is short (fewer than 100 pages sans introductions) and makes the best philosophical case for limited government and freedom I've ever read.

I once read of the IRS/Govt taking over a whorehouse in Nevada for back taxes.

However in true Govt incompetence they bankrupted it within 16 months and it had to be shut down!!!

Now how in the world can ANYONE bankrupt the most lucrative & profitable business and in NEVADA of all places??

Again & Again we're seeing just how corrupt & incompetent this 0Bama govt really is!!

Well done, grasshopper, well done.

Jim, I pinged you to this because you recently posted a thread concerning the commerce clause. If you haven't read Bastiat's The Law, you're doing yourself a great disservice by not doing so at this time.

Without any doubt whatsoever Bastiat's work should be the primer for all conservatives everywhere who have the aim of refuting and repudiating the intent of social engineers worldwide who are bent on erection of ever more grandiose socialist edifice monstrosities. Other works, e.g., by Hazlitt, Milton Friedman, Von Misses, et ali, expound in contemporary terms the principles set forth by Bastiat several decades prior to the French Revolution.

Bastiat presents in succinct, clear and poignant terms just how far down the path to destruction we already have proceeded. The facade and veil of illusion concerning our current predicament will be permanently torn asunder to those edified with Bastiat's words.

Quite frankly, his work should bring any champion of life, property, liberty (the American Way as we used to know it) to despair. Upon reflection of Bastiat's words in conjunction with evaluation of the status quo, despair is only a natural outgrowth to the inevitable realization of the daunting hopelessness inherent in countering (let alone turning back the tide) the stark colossal adversary of the socialist monstrosity of a system already in place.

Anybody who is concerned for the continued viability of the peculiar American experiment of Republican government, i.e., democratically elected representational constitutionally limited republic, should read this work by Bastiat. For in it he presents the fundamental causation of the progressive erosion of the very Constitutional principles which had defined the unique nature of the government of the United States of America. It is the very foundation upon which the Founding Fathers based the Constitution that is being assaulted; the contemporary (and accelerating) brazen disregard of the Constitution itself is merely a symptom.

It should be evident after reading Bastiat's work that a radical paradigm shift has occurred in society at large over the course of the last century. The magnitude of the paradigm shift necessary to change the present course of this still great ship of state known as The United States of America, still the last best place to live in the world, grows in proportion to each socialist program enacted. Quite frankly unless such paradigm shift occurs, and occurs soon, the U.S.A. is doomed to a meeting with destiny the results of which already are a foregone conclusion.

Bastiat points out just how colossal in magnitude such paradigm shift indeed is; ergo, hopelessness and despair; quod erat demonstratum.
