A couple of weeks ago I emailed the following to my FL congress crittters.

How high must fuel and food costs go before you reverse your opposition to domestic oil drilling and support for Soviet style ethanol tariffs and subsidies?

Here is what Sen Bill Nelson (Rat - Fl) had to say:

Thank you for contacting me regarding drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. I oppose drilling in the Arctic Refuge.

As a native Floridian, I realize the importance of protecting our natural habitats and preserving environmentally sensitive lands. Just as I oppose drilling off Florida, I oppose drilling in the Arctic Refuge. I believe the only real solution to our long-term energy needs is reducing our nation's consumption of oil, developing reliable alternatives to oil, and learning to conserve and use energy more efficiently.

like other floridians, when you have to park your car permanently because you can no longer afford $20.00 a gallon gas, remember what a good thing that is for our habitat.

Some time ago, I emailed Senator Nelson and urged him to support drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. His email response was that in the 1960's there was a terrible oil spill in California and for that reason he opposed drilling in the Gulf. Our technology has come a long way since the 1960's and during the recent hurricanes we did not have a single oil spill. If Senator Nelson had a brain, he'd be dangerous!

Nothing in his response that would increase oil production one barrel. I doubt that any of his alternative sources of energy would include nuclear. Just your typical rat response.
