a personal note: i was an officer of the Army/ARNG/USAR for over 28 years (i have a little over 20 years active), traveled the world & saw many examples of man's inhumanity to man. Facts are facts and, as such, they are pesky little critters. Whenever faced with one you dodge and stall, you duck & weave, and you avoid addressing them at all cost. Instead you obfuscate with bluff & bluster. You try to enlist others to come in and fight your fights. You make transparent appeals to authorities in order to weasel out of the fixes you place yourself.
I remember watching a pack of dogs roving through the neighborhood one day. As the larger dogs sparred and tumbled, there was a little yapper that would rush in and snip at one or the other of the combatants.
