Management of the Gods, Graves, Glyphs ping list has passed from Farmfriend to a sort of rotating management. I was just walking by, got hit from behind, and when I came to... here's the standard sig line, courtesy of the once and future manager, FairOpinion:
This is a "Gods, Graves, Glyphs" -- Archeology/Anthropology/Ancient Cultures/Artifacts/Antiquities, etc. PING list.

Please FREEPMAIL me, if you want on or off this list.

Thanks for the un-ping.

Looks like I have a bit of reading ahead of me.

Hope my voice holds out, since I move my lips when I read...

...so my wife can hear it, then discuss it.

It says "You've posted a total of 35 threads and 1,216 replies." Holy crap. I must get outside sometime this summer. Just bumping this topic a little, partly to make it easier for me to find in the "my comments" screen. I've been using it this PM to add "ggg" to the keywords of various topics which already have "archaeology" as a keyword, and where needed, to bump each of those topics (however old they may be) onto the GGG group page. And I'm doing it in reverse alpha, so it will show up in forward alpha. :')
Please FREEPMAIL me if you want on or off the "Gods, Graves, Glyphs" PING list --
Archaeology/Anthropology/Ancient Cultures/Artifacts/Antiquities, etc.

Thanks, I love to read about stuff like this, "forbidden archeology," and so on.

Tip: Building Keyword list
With the demise of the Groups system here on FreeRepublic (which was itself a modification of an earlier system, from the years BC -- before 'Civ) it will be more important than ever to make sure new topics, as well as old ones we wish to keep track of, have a decent, coherent set of keywords.

1: Keywords have no spaces. "Gods, Graves, Glyphs" will wind up as "GLYPHS; GODS; GRAVES" if entered as shown. John Robinson is converting each old Group page to a keyword. The Gods, Graves, Glyphs pinglist should be entered as "godsgravesglyphs". This writer also requests that you enter "ggg". In fact, enter "ggg" even if you're in a hurry and don't want to enter anything. All who use FreeRepublic thank you.

2: Keywords should be obvious. That lack of spaces makes it unlikely that keyword searches will bear fruit if they have them. I'm not quite sure that's correct, but I'm sure we'll all find out.

3: Keywords can be added after the fact. If you find an article you wish to track, and it doesn't have a keyword that it should have, click on "add keyword" and type it in. If you're entering more than one, make sure they are separated by commas not spaces -- "bayofpigs, kennedy" not "bay of pigs kennedy". The second will result in the keyword "bayofpigskennedy" and a topic that will never be found again.

4: Keywords should come from the original article. What else follows along that line will sound a little too anal for most, but will result in a much better, much more comprehensive, and easier to use set of keywords we will all enjoy.
a: Load the article in a word processor, text editor, or other program capable of search and replace to insert line breaks (carriage returns, whatever you call them) and sorting a column of text.

b: Do a search and replace on the space character, changing all to line breaks.

c: Sort the column of text.

d: Begin to glimpse the genius / mania of being me.

e: Starting at the top of the sorted list (which will be in alpha order, with the duplicates conveniently grouped together), highlight the terms not to be included and delete them.

f: Get rid of "the" and "a" (which you should be able to do with search and replace, as long as you precede and follow the term with a line break) and other common words.

g: Select words (like names of people quoted, nations, technical terms) which are distinctive as well as terms related to the topic. For example, an article about the mass-murdering criminal Arafat should include keywords like "PLO" and "terrorism" as well as "Israel".
I hope this has been of some help to everyone.

My last hare-brained stunt (for today) -- this is a quicker way for me to add the keywords to each one (that part still has to be done manually). Feel free to ignore, unless you've got broadband and feel like helping out. Works best if this topic is in a brand new window, as it uses the "slave" window as FR does.

I want to thank you for reminding me of this thread and learning about yours!

THE HISTORY OF HERODOTUS
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-religion/987210/posts

Years ago when I was studying opera their were many fragments of history that would appear in the lebretto's

I could sing the language and knew little about the language only what I could gather on my search.

America is suppose to have a free press but many of our books or ones we get from Europe are revised editions. More on that later.

What I mean when I was a child in the 1950's I had a good memory but had (vision trouble & dyslexia I hate to always bring this up) but it to understand what I am about to say!

They taught more indept history even in the lower grades and even had an option for honor students to learn one of the other 3 languages French, German, and Spanish and maybe Latin.

In those days I am sure used books stores were abundance in old vol of history and records of old world histroy!

than as time march on the course changed and the door closed to learning about another lanuage or even in English about old world history!

We have big generation gaps of knowledge those in school after the 60's have not clue what is omited or edited out of their world of understanding.

And those prior the 60's on the most part continue to think knowledge is simular to what they aquired in school.

Reflecting back was it just "An old boys club" the ratical were ridding or our ablitiy to surrive as a people and not grow stupid with this new agenda in the schools.

America had one of the finest Educational systems in the world and if our people go abroad they learn a Humanist mind and the Creator's mind is eliminted.

In the generations before me we had this Univeral code which came from the Great Classic many of us on some degree had an understanding an if a reference was made to it we all understood. Today you speak that languae and there is dead silence are a stare of what hell are you talking about!

America been snookered and robbed of her history the same thing happen to Europe years ago.

If we do not preserve an inpart this know to future generations no matter what race we as humanity will die!

Fast forward in the 70 I was studying opera and everyonce in a while I would get a glimps of old world history but could not fill in the gaps!

There is an old saying "Hisrory repeats itself if you forget from wenc you came!"

This one example of Jules Massenet opera "Herodiade" is about the Prophet John the Baptist.

The music is beautiful and at time powerful to translate inspite of lost record of history where he obtain the know to write this! As I seached I could not back track his inspiration for the work and what someone notes on this was weird!

It is true music does transend but I still long to the source for the original inspirition!

What ever it is is does varie from the scriptures knowing this would unturn so many stones!

Wagners Ring, Aida so many still have fragments of knowledge of our pass!

PS
We must treasure our older generation before they leave the earth to gleam from their minds viral knowlege for the preservation of mankind

Here in NYC the NYPost is promoting 15 of the old children classic to be had at $6 dollard each yet I wonder if those books were revised or a digest!
