Japan: Trump must declare Hiroshima a ‘war crime’
The People's Daily Morning Star ^ | May 27, 2017

Posted on 05/26/2017 4:23:27 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

JAPANESE peace campaigners have written to US President Donald Trump urging him to declare the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings a war crime.

A copy of the letter from the Society for Requiring the Admission of Historic Responsibility of the US Government for Dropping Atomic Bombs on Japan, dated today was sent to the Morning Star.

“This indiscriminate mass killing should not be forgiven, because it was a crime against humanity,” it read, pointing to the 340,000 deaths from the bombings on August 6 and 9 in 1945.

But Washington continues to justify the atrocities “with the excuse that they hastened the end of the protracted war” and saved lives.

The group said that former US president Harry Truman’s claim after ordering the bombing that a million US troops would have died invading Japan was “false.”

It said General Douglas MacArthur and other commanders estimated a maximum of 66,000 casualties, a quarter of them fatal.

They started it. They shouldn’t have done that, and they should have surrendered. Words uttered today don’t change a darn thing, so I don’t want to hear it. Just stifle!!!

“Society for Requiring the Admission of Historic Responsibility of the US Government for Dropping Atomic Bombs on Japan”

It could be that the only sites mentioning them are Japanese-language sites, or that this article’s translation of the name from the Japanese differs from the usual one.

That was my first thought also...the Japanese government was actually afraid Obastard would apologize, and telegraphed through channels for him not to bother. They of all people understand the pitfalls of dredging up history.

The war could have been ended without the use of nukes.

But that approach would have killed Tens. Of. Millions. of Japanese.

Would that have been your preference?

We had another ten in production. By 1946 we could have destroyed more cities.

“So the moron MacCarthur said he could take all of Japan with 66,000 casualties, with 25% fatal?”

Review the history of Inchon in depth, including the decision-making process. MacArthur was a military genius unequaled in the 20th century.

MacArthur taking Honshu at a fraction of the cost is hardly as unlikely as an ordinary genius doing it.

SO true. The BEST thing that happened to Japan is that we occupied them after the war. We were told by locals that when they came in the company of American soldiers they felt safe as their own were raping and killing without guilt as the religion of peace does today worldwide.

We were in Hiroshima on the anniversary of the bomb and being blonde, I could have had a sign “I am American and Texan”....little children came up to us with smiles and said peace to you and thanks for all you did for us!!! It was humbling. So sad many lost their lives and had lives with side effects of the radiation...but they blew away the horrors of war and brought the people to know peace.

Same thing with my husband’s father who was in WWII. Whenever they came into contact with families in Europe where we’d just bombed days before, the women and children knew they were not going to be harmed farther!!!

Also, when we were in Germany in 2004, we were thanked by young men who said that we gave so many lives for peace. Now...that is gone in Germany...but they know what brings it back.

THANK GOD for President TRUMP and his wife Melania!!! Character means more than riches and they know this!!

“I wonder what these “peace” activists are doing about the Rape of Nanking or untold other episodes by the Japs during WWII?”

Actually, there’s a pretty substantial “Nanking denier” contingent in Japan.

A lot of them actually believe that Japan was just minding its own business when for no good reason at all America just dropped two bombs on them, which was the worst war crime ever committed.

So... let me get a few things straight in my head...

First - WHO bombed who, first?

Second - Who was on a terroristic and genocidal tear in China preceding WW2?

Third - Who treated POWs as cash?

Fourth - I guess it would have been better to continue the conventional bombing of the entire nation of Japan - firebombing it from one city to the next like was done in Tokyo (and in several Germain cities in Europe)?

Fifth - Please tell me this is a parody report!!!

“The ONLY mention was a small plaque that said “Japan PROVOKED the USA.”

Did you take a picture of it? I’d like to see what it says in Japanese.

That’s the “Rape of Nanking” You mean the “Bataan Death March”. “War Crimes” is a modern concept mostly came in with post World War 2 with origins during the turn of the 20th century with the Hague Convention, or earlier with the Geneva Convention.

And I don’t think allies tried the Japanese for a war crime for attacking Peal Harbor.

Which bring me to my original question? Who are the “Society?” ... I don’t think they represent the Japanese government.
