Free tampons would slow flow of gender inequality
Daily Bruin [UCLA] ^ | July 20, 2015 | Zoey Freedman

To most government officials, feminine hygiene products are a luxury item. But, every day, women are being poisoned by their own bodies because they lack access to even the most essential health products.

Meanwhile, most men have no problem getting covered for pills that will help them get a boner.

Although still greatly outnumbered and underpaid compared to their male counterparts, women have made so much progress. Yet inequality still lies in the most basic areas of human well-being. Women are still facing unequal treatment when it comes to health care and are paying out of pocket for necessary female health products, particularly tampons and pads.

Editor’s note: This blog post refers to individuals who menstruate as women because the author wanted to highlight gender inequality in health care. We acknowledge that not all individuals who menstruate identify as women and that not all individuals who identify as women menstruate, but feel this generalization is appropriate considering the gendered nature of most health care policies. _____________________________________________________

OK, I would never think about this in a thousand years. Now. I've thought about it.

This piece of work should be locked up, so she won't propogate.

This piece of work is also failing to distinguish between a boldly function and a medical condition.

The stupid is strong with this one.

This is a joke right?

Sheesh.

They only come out in the night. Or in this case, the daytime.

Author and editor fail at fact checking. Not true about Viagra cialis etc. It is typically not covered.

Some of the comments defending the article seem to spring from the same source of stupid....

In my relatively short life so far, and professionally, I’ve come across women who naturally menstruate when they fall in certain age group(s); there are also those who don’t, within ages groups expected to perform their natural ‘menstrual’ ‘duty’.

I’ve also come across men who suffer from PMS (PMT) quite often.....

Oh, another topic perhaps for the Editor: Menstruation aside, how about ‘menopause’?

It sounds like hormones turned political in healthcare, too.

If they are going to give out free tampons, may I suggest free Leggs or Hanes as well, lol? Getting a little bored of how the bare legged look is still in style for North American women.

Rags are cheap, that is what was used prior to 1930, and no one died of septis as recently recorded using a “Prince Charles”.

Men and women are not equal; They are complimentary. God designed us this way for a reason. That’s not to say that there are not strong women and weak men, but on average, we are not equal.

Men get coverage for Viagra?

She needs to do some research on that. Even discounted, it’s about $300. Tampons are like $6 a box?

There’s about a 5 year longer life expectancy for women vs men. What about that ‘gender inequality’? Shouldn’t me be ‘compensated’ somehow for that, or shouldn’t we be throwing lots of research dollars into combating this gross inequality? /s

$13 for box of 72, delivered. AMAZON Prime.

Her mileage may vary, but that ought to last her a couple or three months ;-)

Why not make your own ? A man in India has done just that. His goal is to make affordable sanitary pads available for rural women in developing countries.

I believe the guy should be nominated for a Nobel Prize. Interesting chap. He faced all sorts of opposition. Can't post the whole article, but here's a snip.

The Indian sanitary pad revolutionary

A school dropout from a poor family in southern India has revolutionised menstrual health for rural women in developing countries by inventing a simple machine they can use to make cheap sanitary pads.
