The Civil War was about states rights to own slaves.

The War of Southern Aggression that wanted to extend slavery into Kansas which prior to the CW was petitioning for statehood. The North wanted it to be a free state, the South wanted it to be a slave state. It was in "Bleeding Kansas'' where the Civil War really started.

Contact local chapters of Sons of Confederate Veterans or United Daughters of the Confederacy. You can find their contact information online. They should be able to help you.

We were at Appomattox Court House last week for the reception and first showing of the new Park Service video. My husband is in it.
We saw a flag on a tall pole as we were leaving town.

The vast majority of people now oppose slavery. Time moves on and things change. It's over. The Southerners lost the Civil War like the Germans lost World War Ii and the symbols used by both have been stained.

I don't know any families using the name Hitler. Even the name Adolf is in a slump. There aren't any companies using the German swastika as a trademark. That's just the way these things go for the losing side.

But, supporters of the Stars and Bars should be patient. In a thousand years, no one will remember what it stands for now.

Nah. They should have skipped Gettysburg and gone strait to Filthydelphia. They would have done the world a favor.

That isn’t the flag that was raised on Mt. Surabachi is it? And it sure as hell isn’t the one our men and women are serving under today, is it?

It's pointless to try to rationally discuss a subject with someone when they're proven themselves incapeable of using real words.

Looks like a real word to me.

slavocracy
noun slav·oc·ra·cy \slā-ˈvä-krə-sē\
: a faction of slaveholders and advocates of slavery in the South before the American Civil War

Merriam-Webster
