A Highway Patrol trooper who caught another officer speeding to an off-duty job at 120mph is suing for more than $500,000 - saying his allies harassed her after he was fired. Florida's Donna Jane Watts made national headlines after handcuffing Miami Police Department officer Fausto Lopez, while he was in full uniform and driving a police car. Since the incident in 2011 she claims she has had threatening calls on her cell phone, police cars idling outside her house and fellow officers accessing her private driver's license information. Ms Watts - who is suing more than 25 police agencies - said she is even afraid to open her mailbox. Other calls included prank calls and orders for pizza, she claimed. In a lawsuit she said law enforcement officers had long been known to band together and protect each other, but her case took things too far. According to her lawyer, she suspected her private driver's license information was being accessed by fellow officers, so she made a public records request with the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. It allegedly showed at least 88 law enforcement officers from 25 different agencies accessed Watts' driver's license information more than 200 times - in just three months. Ms Watts is suing those police agencies and the individual officers under the federal Driver Privacy Protection Act, a 1994 law that provides for a penalty of $2,500 for each violation if the information was improperly accessed. Watts' attorney, Mirta Desir, said it was clear most of the officers had no legitimate reason to look up her data. If all the searches were found illegal, Watts could receive more than $500,000.

If every one thought that way we would not have a police force because they would all be in jail for breaking some law.
On the other hand these other officers have no problem handcuffing 80 year old men or women or any one else, in fact the people who are paying them their salaries.
We all should live by our word but we should be pledging our lives to something that is right in Gods eyes instead of mans laws.

The voters said on November 4, 2008, again by their votes, just legalize using dope, the murder of unborn and partially born babies, and every sexual perversion under the sun. Just give us freebies such as free "health care" and other people's money and make our personal decisions for us because we are too stupid to make them for ourselves. If you do this for us , we won't give a damn about how corrupt you are and we also won't give a shit what you do to the Constitution of the United States of America. A Constitution that better men than these sons of bitches, have through the years shed their blood to defend and keep on the field of battle.

I'm sorry, there are unwritten laws, customs and traditions that operate in the real world. I'm not a cop, never been a cop and am concerned about the behavior of cops militarizing their jobs.
Men working together as a team, especially if there is a life-threatening element involved have their unwritten rules. I'm willing to bet that cops, whatever the rules, look to give their colleagues (fellow cops) a break, by not treating them as a criminal and handcuffing them.
In my experience, women don't operate this way. She violated the unwritten rules by handcuffing a fellow LEO.
She's reaped the whirlwind to a degree by violating custom and tradition.
Calling me all kinds of names changes nothing.
She did her job.
The other guy was breaking the law.

Of course, there is no honest reason for a person to steal a loaf of bread in the USA today.
The guy had just been arrested for driving 120 Miles and hour and he was most likely going to lose his job, he was in uniform and was no doubt armed.
I would've handcuffed him just to make sure I stayed alive
Just think of all the "zero tolerance" cases in government schools. Child handcuffed for drawing a gun or something. Boys suspended for finger guns, eating a toaster strudel into the shape of a gun, drawing a gun. All these cases arguable the authorities followed the written rules, but their actions were clearly insane. I'm arguing that this is possibly another case of following written rules could be insane.
This used to be the conservative position, while the progressives wanted to write rules to cover all situations and insist on compliance with rules, however insane or not.
We need to take every opportunity to move towards a saner society. This cop didn’t make the rules. We have no info that he had been overly aggressive in his behavior toward citizens. So, attacking this one cop, may be unjust.
