~ ~ For People who obviously don't know the facts, and how silly of them to even comment, without knowing the facts. ~ ~ . When the government intervened in the Terri Schindler matter, it was the system of checks and balances. The government was operating exactly the way our forefathers set it up to operate! 49 posted on 03/14/2007 8:44:00 PM PDT by TAdams8591
" I don't see anything in the US constitution that permits Congress to intervene."
The author is exactly right. It's the system of checks and balances. Given the facts of Terri's case our government responded the way it should have. If anything, what Terri's case helped to reveal, among other things, is that the power of the Judicial branch of government, is now greater than the other two branches, making a system of true checks and balances as envisioned by our forefathers, virtually impossible. This should be a matter of concern to all true conservatives, everywhere. 50 posted on 03/14/2007 8:56:19 PM PDT by TAdams8591

Martin Katz on Terri SchiavoThe essence of the Terri Schiavo case is simple, all ink and hot air to the contrary. We, as a society, the government and people of the United States of America, have not managed, for whatever reasons, to permit a mother, deluded or not, to put water onto the lips of her dying child, brain dead or not.Everything else, every legal, moral, theological, constitutional, or philosophical argument, is a sideshow, diverting attention from the essential issue of this case. We have wounded our national character. By our actions, or inactions, we have placed ourselves one notch less, above the Nazis. We, as a people, have so shamed ourselves, that we cannot look Mary Schindler, Terri Schiavo's mother, in the eye, and give her one good reason why WE did not allow her to give water to her dying child. How we came to this shameful point in our national existence is a question that demands examination, and rectification. For our sake. For Mary Schindler, and her severely impaired child, Terri Schiavo, it is too late. We did not find it in our collective hearts and souls, in our actions, to have mercy on them. May We, and G_d, forgive us. Martin Katz
Martin Katz on Terri Schiavo - The American Thinker, March 29, 2005 FR Thread (3/29/05): Terri Schiavo: Judicial Murder Nat Hentoff | Village Voice ^ | 7/11/05 (Terri's 'crime' was being disabled & voiceless) As David Gibbs, the lawyer for Terri's parents, has pointed out, there has been a manifest need for a new federal, Fourteenth Amendment review of the case because Terri's death sentence has been based on seven years of "fatally flawed" state court findings_all based on the invincible neglect of elementary due process by Judge George Greer. . http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1357911/posts?page=13#13 And, see Post #14... FR's cyn has something special on the personal FR site. & Posted below. From FR's cyn - (Florida) Most important thing to know about Terri Schiavo: While Terri was being denied food and water, our FL state senators were told by Jim King about a free luncheon, and debated cock fighting. Can't be cruel to living creatures, dontcha know. + + + + + + + + + + + + + - Thanks cyn ! = http://freerepublic.com/~cyn/ -###- |

So all the doctors and therapists who treated Terri are wrong but YOU are right? Huh. 33 doctors disagreed with the doctors who claim that Terri is pvs. Judge Greer ignored them. Nurses have given sworn testitmomy that Terri did eat, did try to talk and knew them. Greer ignored them. She's hasn't been helped in all the years past because her husband has stopped all therapy, ordered that NO therapy be given her. Terri was able to talk a few words, used to sit at the nurses station and interact with people and was able to eat from a spoor or fork when fed....but hubby put a stop to all of that. He's forbidden her to be taken outside, he's forbidden her window curtains to be opened, etc.....he's shut her off from the world. He had the spoon feeding stopped and insisted she be fed through a tube instead. - by TexasTaysor What I was referring to, is the occasional incidence of missing brain tissue. I cannot remember the name of the disease now, but in some instances people have had cat scans done that showed only a minimal amount of brain in the peripheral regions of the skull. However, up until these brain scans were done, nobody would have know these people were any different than the average person. They functioned normally. They appeared to have average, above or below intelligence just like the general populace. Neurologists can't explain that. It's hypocrisy of the highest order for them to pretend they fully understand how the brain works and what Terry's absolute condition is. - by DoughtyOne

- Hospice - If done right it is wonderful. Here the Hospice is abrogating their mission. by tort_feasor (FreeRepublic.com - Tommorrow's News, Today) I have been at the very end for a person dying in hospice. I was there for the last rights and the final breath. It takes a very special person to work in hospice. Sadly this HAS given hospice a black eye. Instead of a place of compassion, Michael Shiavo has made them accomplices to murder by court order. - by longtermmemmory My wife switched jobs and had her uncle on hospice with the old one. When he started actively dying it was a nightmare to get the hospice to come out. We had to call the State. I am a lawyer and my wife was a hospice nurse and we were flumoxed. We shudder at what others go through when there are problems. - by tort_feasor Even Christopher Shays, who voted against the bill in Congress, said that his reading of the law requires a de novo review, and that the judges are frankly ignoring the clear wishes of Congress. - by B Knotts ----- nobody wants to live this way..... if their other choice is being healthy. Many want to live this way if their other choice is death. - by Tax-chick ----- It would be fitting for Greer's involvement in this case to end with him being taken into custody on obstruction charges. If he pushes it, that may be what happens. - by Jeff Head (Note: fwiw.. It was posted... ?? can't arrest the judge. ?? The Florida Legislature would have to impeach him, and then...???) I hope the next step is to arrest the husband and the judge. Both of them need to be put on trial for attempted murder, and a particularly depraved attempt at that. I think that Judge Greer has manifestly been obstructing the investigation of the Congress, and that's a federal felony charge if the Congress presses it. "that's a federal felony charge if the Congress presses it." Congress will press it, if THE PEOPLE press CONGRESS. Fire up the keyboards! - by Blurblogger But the DCF asked Greer for 60 days to investigate abuse allegations, he denied the request. Nobody crushed Greer for that or took Terri into custody. They let Terri remain in a possibly abusive situation where she was then deprived of food and water. Why do you think they'll do something now? Tick tock what is the holdup? 1,109 posted on 03/23/2005 3:04:27 PM PST by keysguy I hope so. Time is short. I think Greer is a little arrogant. I think that Gov. Bush would not hold a press conference with a lawyer from DCF if nothing was in the works. They know that poor Terri has little time. I believe that many, many truths are going to come to light about the prinicipals involved in this over time. The more I read, the more links I follow, the more court documents I look at, the more upset I become at the way Terri has been treated. - by didi Terri's nurse said Michael provided the best make-up possible, not medical care. - by monkeywrench Heavenly Father, we return to thank You for the prayers of the saints that have sustained this mother's child through these days and nights. Stand watch over her, O Lord ... soothe her brow and ease her breathing ... diminish her pain by the touch of Your hand. Minister to her in these dark hours with heavenly words of comfort ... may she hear the angelic host ... may her heart be uplifted, even in her agony. Make haste, O God, to rescue her from this torment. Protect her from irreversible harm, whether in this present suffering or from further injury by those who seek her life. Deny them their sacrifice, O Lord ... proclaim anew that in Your hand is the life of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind. Take hold of the agony of mother and father and sister and brother ... let not the weight of this horror completely overtake them, but give them hope and encouragement, for they have fought so long for their wounded child. Vindicate their love, O God ... vindicate their love. Let them stand before the world as a testimony to the exquisite love of parent for child ... unbroken by circumstance and unrelenting in faith. Soon, Lord Jesus, soon may they again hold their beloved, that they might nurture her once again to the fullness of health and capability. May it be thus, O Lord, may it be thus, in the Name of Jesus, Amen ... - by Pegita ('Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, just to take Him at His Word ...) = Will try to get an updated List of FR Articles: These are from Last Friday, March 18, 2005 = Summary of Friday's Articles: (Fri. 9:38pm) "TODAY MARCH 18TH STARVATION DAY #1 FOR TERRI...FREEP FOR HER LIFE" (Thread 2) SAVE TERRI Online Petition - by JuliePierce FAMILY SPOKESPERSON: Terri's FEEDING TUBE REMOVED!
