Yes, yes and more yes. I’m am fascinated by the early labor movement in this country which has, of course, led me into anarchist & communist history in this country. Your perspective on German infiltration is interesting as well. We had many reasons to kick out a lot of people in those days.
I’ve actually seen film footage of Emma Goldman heading towards the famous ship that took her and others back to Europe (and then on to Russia where she discovered the commies don’t play nice).
Progressives never want to hear of this history.
1920s Woodrow Wilson / anarchists / communists / progressive ping
The dems/commies are A-OK with no due process red flag laws and the wholesale disarming of Americans and calling for troops to arrest those that dont surrender them.
Rats! Someone beat me to it. :-)
My grand father was a guard at port newark in WW II. They were alert to sabatage but were not aware of the deal with the mafia which controlled the docks. Hence no sabotage! Newark was a hot bed of commies. Some of the Rosenberg ring were there and they were just the tip of the ice berg.
Quartering troops in houses was reasonable and Palmer is a hero. The FR brigade that aches for righteous authoritarianism is awake this morning I see.
Deporting Emma and arresting two armed robbers is fine. But Wilson’s attack on free speech is the worst in our nation’s history. Palmer unleashed a young progressive homo named J Edgar Hoover on America.
The organization he created and imprinted his lack of values on tramples on the constitution to this very day.
No, it will come from the same side. The Wilson group was not patriotic, it was rabid progressive authoritarian. They would feel quite at home in today’s Democrat party. Their “patriotism” is the same as democrats today standing up for “our democracy” and Nancy Pelosi conning out to impeach Trump with a dozen American flags in the background. Wilson lives on in speech codes, the patriot act, social media censoring, and political correctness.
I stand corrected. Good point.
I know what you mean though, and you’re right
. . . so he hired hundreds of Alger Hiss types to save capitalism from itself."
One thing that in my experience I have discovered that not a lot of people know, is that the Wilsonian progressives used Camp Upton as a concentration camp prior to deportation.
See here.
"It could never happen here" - "It already has before...", is exactly right.
Progressives put communists into concentration camps. They won't have any problem putting us into concentration camps either. These are very bad people.
Progressivism Ping..................
Wilson was our worst President, ever.
Yep...
Really, when it comes to Dems, they all pretty much sucked after Thomas Jefferson.
What a mess it was, wrongheadedness on both sides.
The old question: How do we virtuously fight those that fight dirty?
Importantly, Wilson was on the “internationalist progressive” side of the progressive split just before the turn of the century. The “nationalist progressive” leader was Teddy Roosevelt.
Conservatives did not back either side, though leaned towards nationalism.
The split happened at the same time in Europe, with the nationalist progressives eventually backing the Nazis and the internationalist progressives backing the communists.
Yet once again, conservatives wanted nothing to do with either side, but also leaned towards nationalism.
The real radicals of the time were revolutionary anarchists, many of whom came as immigrants from the protracted Italian unification and the Balkans. Since they could not easily obtain guns, their weapons of choice were bombs, much like the Russian Bolsheviks.
